May I remind you … the rest of the world was taking care of business. USA came into WWII at the END. Let me just say that I lived as an American in Canada for a little over 3 years, and you guys are easily as bad as we are as far as treating people from other countries like subhumans. My teachers were absolutely delighted to have an _American_ in the class to fuck with. More than once I was literally told in all seriousness by teachers that I was to apologize to the class for some random beef that the teacher had with the US. I took more shit from everyone in that country about my nationality, all because so many of your countrymen felt like it was their responsibility to make me aware (through verbal harrasment, physical assault and absolutely unwarranted rudeness) of how their culture was so infinitely superior to ours. I didn’t even have a dog in that fight mind you. I didn’t fucking argue with them and that made no difference, I had to be taught a lesson by fucking Canada. Not only that, but I’ve lived many places all over the country, including small-town Texas, and lemme tell you that we can’t touch you guys as far as unabashed racism is concerned. I heard more epithets thrown around about asians, blacks and middle-easterners there than I can ever imagine hearing down here. Basically, fuck you. You people are no better, you just happen to be smaller right now. Canadians, like any other set of human beings, will abuse the shit out of the situation when they find themselves in a position of power. And they will bitch, bitch, bitch when they aren’t in that position. I’m not making any comments about you personally, mind you. I’m well aware that people everywhere act like dicks when you give them the chance. I’m just saying that the myth of our enlightened neighbors to the North with their happy little multicultural utopia is utter bullshit. LC ---

May I say, I find this discussion very interesting. Whilst I was on a cruise to the caribbean last August, I wondered into a Kariaoke room, where an individual was singing some song about the USA, and what great country it is. Everybody was on their feet, singing and clapping. I just sat down!! THE DIRTY LOOKS I GOT. How dare I not be patriotic. Well, let me say, Im VERY patriotic to my country. My country doesnt happen to be the US. My country happens to be one, where, if a world cup sports event is played, it involves THE WHOLE WORLD. Funny how its a WORLD series in baseball, the superbowl champs are WORLD champions, ad nausiem. I would like to add, the icing on the cake came when some news chick says “God bless OUR soldiers in Iraq”. HELLO??? What about the other countries there?? Lets not forget, the US have only won only ONE war by themselves; the civil war. So much for your money and military superiority. Iran, Beirut, Somalia. Good memories there!! I think its time, you yanks realise theres a world out there, past JFK or Tom Bradley Airports; a world you would benefit learning from. ---

My business travels to the States have varied between pleasant and slightly surreal (“What do you mean ‘What do I want gravy on my fries for?’? Because they’re fries!”). There’s the occasional nut, but I’d expect a few in a population approaching 300 million. All in all, I like the States. Nice place to visit and so on. Make it worth my while and I’d even consider working there. Can’t say I’m too keen on what your government’s done with the place lately, though. Nothing Occupant has done has made any sense to me, and the media dance over the past few months has been a little too surreal for my tastes. But I don’t hold the general population in lower regard because of that. ---

There the United States was about to be invaded and Australian forces defeated the Japanese at the Battle of the Coral Sea and then went on to drive Japan back across the Pacific. Lucky fucking us. But, admittedly, it was the Russians who broke the back of Nazi Germany. What the US chiefly did was prevent the Russians from “liberating” Western Europe. What was that tv show with Rick Mercer, the one where he went around asking Americans their opinions on made-up Canadian issues, illustrating the America = Ignoramus Land philosophy? I always thought that it had a stupid premise. Why did he expect random Americans to know who Canada’s prime minister was? Would he expect a Roman wagon merchant to know who the chief of the Celts were? Because that’s effectively what he was doing. Like it or hate it, but the United States effectively runs a global empire with global concerns, and those concerns are far greater than worrying about who leads a bunch of harmless hosers. Whereas Canada’s biggest concern is its relationship with the United States, meaning that cross-border issues are magnified in Canadian minds. This kind of thinking borders on a colonial mentality, where little brother is always looking to see what big brother does first. It kind of annoys me how I moved from the Philippines, an ex-colony of the United States, to Canada, a present colony of the United States. Effectively, anyway. And besides, you could say that the Philippines is still effectively an American colony, too. ---
