# Are you tall enough?

Female. Official medical people have given me varied and sometimes creative things between 5’2" and 5’3". I round up for my modeling comp cards and either split the difference or round down for everyday life. My super-tall catwalk heels bring me to just about average.

When I give my height, people argue with me. I think I’m just loud enough for someone several inches taller than I actually am, and it confuses them. 😃

The only problems I’ve ever really had with it are when I go clothes shopping. Manufacturers tend to assume that if you’re short, you’re also petite and waifishly thin, and vice versa. I’m built rather along the lines of Mae West. (Or, if you’re one of those young’uns who don’t watch movies from before you were born, Scarlett Johansson.) Two-thirds leg, broad shoulders and wide hips, very short torso pinched in two by a wasp waist. Pants with long enough legs have way too much rise, shirts that button across my chest are huge everywhere else, and stuff that I can pull on over my backside are many inches too big in the oddly-placed waist. I learned how to tailor things out of sheer desperation.

I’m tall enough to look anybody I’m talking to in the eye. I think of _One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest_ with the big Indian who felt small, and I feel just the opposite. I’ve always felt big, tall, and _there_. My husband and sons are all around six foot. I’m 5’3". I think we’d all agree we’re on even ground.
