# Are you “The Old Man” at work?

Generation _Alpha_ evidently.

These are all notable features, but some of them are broad and fairly low-stakes observations, given that the global population has been getting [richer](https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NY.GDP.PCAP.CD), [better educated](https://ourworldindata.org/global-education), and more exposed to digital technology for a while now.

I’m embracing the role of old lady. I’ve dropped to part time, and i lost my direct report, but i still get to mentor the kids in the team.

I’m the second oldest in my department and have been here longer than all but one person (who started at a younger age).

I’m the third oldest in our IT department but I’m the oldest male so it depends on how literal your question is. I have the most IT experience of anyone so I’d say that I am. I’m old enough that I’ve added “Curmudgeon” to my email signature.
