I remember that exact experience! I was in 3rd grade the first time I “flunked” a screening test at school and got packed off to the doctor for eyeglasses. When the glasses arrived it was like a whole new world opened up.
Wearing glasses since I was 10. A few years ago I was really struggling with printed material. With my computer I could change the font, but books don’t have that feature. So I got my first pair of varifocal lenses approximately 3 years ago. Probably could use a new prescription for reading, but I use e-books more and more, so it’s not that critical.
Definitely need more light to read, though. Especially my German books, which seem to be type-set for teenagers.
That’s been one of the more annoying things about aging eyes for me - what I used to read effortlessly now takes more work and more light.
I probably couldn’t find the monitor screen 16 inches in front of my face without my specs.
I HAVE bifocals, but I really only wear them for driving. Especially now that I wear a mask at work. I have had NO success at keeping them unfogged.
Do monocles count?
No glasses. Just monovision Lasik which I had 15 years ago at the age of 50.
I wear glasses when I drive or at work where I’m driving a forklift and needing to read labels on the third level of pallet racking. Other than that, I get by pretty well with my naked eyes. In fact, I sometimes feel like the longer I go without wearing my glasses, the less I need them. For sure need them while driving at night and when it comes to reading unusually small print on product labels. Never wear them while at my desktop or on my tablet or phone.
