I did wear green, but if I’d remembered, I wouldn’t have. The whole St. Patrick’s Day thing annoys the heck out of me. (Not the saint. Great saint.) I am not too terribly into ethnic identity, but the whole “to be Irish is to be a drunken lout” thing grouches me off. :mad: Catrandom ---

_Ahem_ Okay, this thread is official now. 😉 Yes, I am wearing green - just because. It was an accidental whim that I picked the shirt with green today. Plum forgot. Used to wear a “Kiss Me I’m Irish” pin every year, but gave up on that. Didn’t seem to work. In five years I got _1_ kiss from a girl. I also got one from a guy. _I_ don’t count that one as “working” (i.e. getting me the attention I’m seeking - I just know someone’s going to distort that statement - I must be psychic). _sigh_ [imagining Mega in her shamrock socks] (Hey, you don’t have them on the cam, do ya? 😉 ) ---

This is one of the few days where I would intentionally not wear green, just in case someone mistook me for being Irish. ---

For those who are familiar with the uniquely Philadelphian tradition of The Mummers, they have this parade on Jan. 1 every year. Grown men parading around in large, fabulous, sequin-and-feather costumes and makeup playing… and I know this sounds harsh… banjoes and saxophones, and using the day to get completely smashed, leading to brawls, pissing in the streets, and all kinds of debauchery. Those of us who do _not_ view this as a “quaint old tradition,” but rather as an embarassment for all involved, aren’t sure whether we should consider it the one day when straight men get to be fabulous drag queens, or call it “South Philly Pride Day,” because the whole debacle really does smack of a gay pride parade.
