# Aren't embassies inviolate under international law?

They would probably have been far more open to this if Assange hadn’t left Sweden after (apparently six days after) being made aware that he was wanted for further questioning. His legal counsel claims they had no contact with him - or indeed ability to contact him - in these six days, which frankly is ludicrous.

Additionally, if he is wanted for arrest and/or charging then they’ll have difficulty doing that outside their jurisdiction.
