Maricopa County deputies in Hawaii seeking Obama’s birth certificate.

A Hawaii deputy attorney general gave the men information concerning the legal requirements to obtain such a document; the requirements are posted on the Health Department’s website. The two men then left the office, Health Department spokeswoman Janice Okubo said.

The two men showed Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office badges and identified themselves as Michael Zullo and Brian Mackiewcz, Okubo said. They are “authorized by the Sheriff of Maricopa County, who is conducting an official investigation,” a spokesman for the sheriff’s office said in an email.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been researching Obama’s residency status using a volunteer cold-case “posse,” but now has employed a taxpayer-funded deputy, The Arizona Republic reported Monday.

Zullo is a volunteer, the Republic reported, but Okubo said that Mackiewicz presented a business card showing he is with the Threats Management Unit of the sheriff’s office.

“At the request of a constituent, I asked the state of Hawaii for a verification in lieu of certified copy,” he said. “We’re merely asking them to officially confirm they have the president’s birth certificate in their possession and are awaiting their response.”

He went on to explain that he had been trying for eight weeks to verify Obama’s certificate and was surprised by how challenging it has been to get a response from Hawaii officials.

So what about this Romney character?

I understand his gramps moved to Mexico to practice polygamy, that Romney’s dad was born in Mexico (was he a polygamist, too?) and that Romney himself was born in Detroit…which is only one mile from Canada! Is Romney himself a ‘natural born citizen’? Why won’t he prove it? What is he hiding? Will Arizona investigate this very important question, too?

Well, not that it justifies the MCSO’s insanely disproportionate reaction here, but I can understand their going ballistic over it. Cops do not want their home addresses published anywhere ever, for obvious reasons – anybody you ever arrested could find out where to find you, and your family. And in Arpaio’s case, he would have to have a 'round-the-clock detail guarding his house to prevent assassination.

Peace officer exemption statutes typically exclude the personal information of elected officials, since the public has a greater interest in disclosure. So Arizona Statutes §39-123 may not apply to Arpaio, just his deputies.

They’ve already started that on the Hannity forums. Hell, they’ve all but admitted that there’s absolutely no evidence for Obama’s citizenship which would be acceptable.
