Losing your fun perk is a necessary by tightening. Losing my fun perk is downright un-American.
Lots of organizations are losing funding for things that are actually essential to their mission. While I’m sure TA is nice and has helped a lot of people, it’s not at this point essential to the actual mission. The military is charged with keeping us safe from foreign enemies, and TA doesn’t really have much to do with that.
In any case, much of this money goes to shady for-profits with low graduation rates and poor career outcomes- in other words? Profitable scams. It’s actually pretty scandalous.
Service members can still go to school, they are free to take out loans like the rest of us. With income based repayment, they will never pay more than 15% of their income.
