How can I reason with you if you won’t listen? Nevermind. I give up. You’re right.

Okay, a bit of background. One of my sister’s friend’s fathers was killed by a 16-YO drunk druver who had her license for all of two weeks before the accident. Both my grandfathers drank and neither would admit to their alcoholism, among other serious criminal faults.

[soapbox and rant]
I DO have a problem with people who drive drunk. That there wasn’t any blood on your bumper doesn’t mean you didn’t hit anyone. That you don’t remember the night is not a good sign. I would hope you can learn from this not to drink so much that you’re still drunk when you leave the restaurant or whatever.

Don’t look at this as an “I got lucky this time; maybe I’ll get lucky the next as well” situation. Consider yourself graced by God once and don’t make Him need to grace you twice.
[/soapbox and rant]

I personally have never seen the use of getting drunk. There are so many more fun things to do that don’t involve killing yourself slowly.

I don’t see how anyone could be offended by this post, but if you are please email me with your concerns/disagreements. I see no reason to argue about this kind of thing publicly when it’s a private concern.

That said, I still don’t think you should turn yourself in. Just don’t put yourself in a situation where you could be arrested for having drunk alcohol.

Well said.

I have no problem with drinking. But just do yourself the simple favor of making arrangements prior to getting so drunk that your judgement is off.

I can remember as a small child how ‘cool’ it was that dad could pop the top off a beer with his seatbelt while driving with his knee. We used to cheer when he would throw the bottles out the drivers window, over the roof and hit the telephone poles.

I can remember as an older child, being so scared that we were all going to die that I begged Mom to drive.

I am proud to say , neither myself or my sibling has EVER driven while intoxicated.

We know better.

So then if I decide to bring a gun to a bar, that's my decision I am responsible for, but if I get drunk I'm not responsible for deciding to shoot someone because I am no longer in control?

```
I’m with Mega the Roo on this one. The reason she was no longer in control was due to herself. (probably not a mickey, they wouldn’t bring you home.) Odds are no one was hurt, though the possibility does exist. Learn from this, and don’t let it happen again. And don’t drink until you can’t remember what happened anymore, that’s real bad for you too. That could, and I emphasize \<b\>COULD \</b\> be a problem in itself.
I haven’t read the entire thread, so forgive me if I’m rehashing someone else’s posts.
Guilty? No. Scared you should be. Remember this and keep it with you always. You got a freebie, and so did every other driver and every pedestrian you went past that night, although they don’t know it. You made a huge karma withdrawal; don’t bankrupt yourself.
You should also be scared because you got blackout drunk. That is not something to be shrugged off. I’m not saying you’re officially an alcoholic, but **alcoholics black out**. Test yourself. The next situation where you normally would drink, don’t, and see how it affects you.
Just a suggestion: Go to an AA meeting (singular). Get there a few minutes early, and explain to the regulars that you’re not committing to this, but you had a disturbing experience that you’d like to discuss. After the topic discussion, they should be willing to allow you time to tell your story and hear their commments.
Freak, getting blackout drunk is the definition of “irresponsible”. No offense Nanno, but it’s true.
That’s exactly what I said. Where’s the argument?
Not exactly. It’s more like having multiple personalities, you can’t be held responsible for what your other personality does. In my opinion, being drunk is a bit like being psychotic. Logic and common sense just don’t exist anymore. I think that if someone kills someone, no matter what the circumstances, the law must hold that person responsible. But personal feelings of guilt are not so black and white than that. Just because someone is responsible for something, doesn’t mean they should feel bad about it.
Once again, I should point out that I have a pretty bizarre sense of logic. The above statement actually makes sense to me.
ok first of all this is first time in 15 years that I got drunk, I have no excuse for why it happened,it will not happen again. I know first hand what alcohol can do to a person and what a drunk driver can to change a families life forever.
I just find it somewhat freeky that there was a car crash right outside as I was reading this thread.
Well, at least that’s _something_ we agree on.
