Geez, last Wednesday I was at the sushi bar with a friend. Wednesday is always sushi night. So we were talking about pirates and of course began talking Like pirates.
It might have ended there but I went by the store on my way home. All of my internal monologue was in pirate voice:
“Arrrrr! whar be the milk?”
“Arrrrr! Should I get the Hostess Cupcakes or Lil’ Debbie?”
I’m wasn’t saying any of it out loud, but it was making me smile and snicker. Things got worse when I actually noticed the Muzak and began singing “Arrrrr, Baby I Love Your Way” in my head. At that point I was having trouble not laughing out loud.
So I got up to the register and there I was with some cupcakes and soda and giggling at (apparently) nothing in particular. They must have thought I was a junkie. It didn’t help that I let slip with a little “Arrrr, thanks” when the cashier said to have a nice day.

My sentiments exactly… I missed the opportunity of talking like a pirate all day at work - my manager already thinks I’m strage but this would have sealed the deal!
Are pirate years like dog years or something because I swear it hasn’t been 12 months! Incidentally, I have a genuine flint-lock pistol passed down from my grandmother that would be an ideal prop for talk like a pirate day but I’m afraid (in these terror filled times) to take it out in public… what wouldn’t I give to go back to those peacefull days when pirates roamed the open seas…

Arrr. It’s all weevils and no hardtack for me, mateys! Have my guts for garters and feed the rest t’ the gibbet crows if I didn’t miss the blasted day!
I talked like a pirate on and off for a couple of YEARS when I was a kid (as in age 14 or so.) It was downright addictive. And, no, it was not particularly conducive to my already stunted social life.

Nope, it was quite certainly in September last year as well. All I can say is that somebody had better post a warning thread a few days in advance next year, so that we don’t all miss the opportunity again.
