I received this week’s issue of the New Yorker, the first since WTC.

The cover is perfect – pure black. Art Spiegelman (their art director and author of **Maus** – which, if you haven’t read, you should immediately log off and buy a copy) is a master of artistic metaphor, and the cover is a classic – simple, yet poignantly direct.

Also of note in the issue: except for one George Booth drawing, there are no cartoons. Nor are there any of their humorous fillers.

Squint at it, **RC** …you’ll see the faint outlines of where the WTC used to be. Also, the radio antenna cuts through the lettering at the top.

I agree that the lack of cartoons is brilliant…it wasn’t till the second reading that I noticed. And the Booth drawing is classic.
