The ethical expectation in fine arts circles is that you either a) destroy the image or b) have an open edition (which should be priced much lower per print).
I have played around with digital prints, but never done a limited edition. I have done limited edition traditional relief prints, and printmaking communities are pretty strict in their expectations around labeling, etc. It’s intimidating, to be honest!
Would they know which printer was used, which inks, what process? What if an expert put a real one and a fake side by side?
Also, running a few prints off on a $1,500 printer is one thing, but I would hope that a really freaky digital artist would Frankenstein a bunch of plotter parts and robot arms and airbrushes…
