I don’t have kids yet either, but this is sort of my view as well. I don’t have all the answers, but it’s not beyond my beliefs to see that God may have used evolution as a tool in our creation and development.
I think I also agree with you, JETGIRL, and Thea. I’ve never been very religious, but this makes the most sense to me, as one who has deeply contemplated both science and creationism, I’ve pretty much decided to keep it in the middle.
Either that or Slartibartfast just put the dinosaur bones there for us to find.
At any rate, my kid can watch whatever she wants.
I am a Methodist, and my oldest son loves dinosaurs. He can tell you all about them, including the bits about evolution, extinction and possible links with modern birds. He’s 4.
Of course I believe in evolution, I think I would be a fool not to. I liked what was said about about there being “how” questions and “why” questions.
And as far as voice-overs go, here’s my votes-
David Attenborough- yes
Kenneth Branagh- yes
John Goodman- no, please
Oops, sorry about the “about” stutter!

There is, however, a disconnect between what is espoused, what is sometimes taught and what various Catholics will tell you about evolution. I knew a few people in high school who were as sure that kissing was oral sex as they were that evolution and the Bible just didn’t mesh. However, that belief (about the Bible) does get increasingly common as one goes to the conservative end of the Christian spectrum. I’m not aware of a similar secular trend, having never met any non-religious folk who disagreed with evolutionary precepts. If there is such a trend, I’d be interested to hear about it*.

If she wanted to, sure. Just because I don’t believe in the theory of evolution doesn’t mean my daughter shouldn’t know what evolution IS. She’s going to learn about a lot of things that we don’t necessarily believe in, it’s what being educated is all about. It’s sort of hard to say “I don’t believe in X” when you don’t have a clue as to what “X” is.
Plus dinosaurs are VERY “in” with the 3-5 year old demographic.
Exactly.
Christian Slater does the voiceover.
Ooh, he does the dinosaur shows on Discovery Kids too! We like him!
