I’m sorry I have flown over the handlebars a couple times and it hurt. The second day is worse then the first so she may be in some bad pain. I got a concussion and was in bed for a few days. She is lucky to have you…
Ouch. How painful. Hoping for a speedy recovery!
When I had irritatingly non-stop bleeding inside my mouth (from a difficult extraction), someone recommended black tea to stop the bleeding. You just dampen an ordinary teabag with hot water to start it off, then put it up against the wound (let it cool a little first!). I don’t know anything about it except that it worked for me… I’d been bleeding for hours, and it stopped within minutes. Tasted FOUL, mind you.
Just read this. Ow.
Hoping from here for a speedy, complication-minimal recovery. Take care!
Thanks all. Patty is very, very fortunate that she only got a cut and some road rash. We are both stunned that she did not break a nose, jaw or lose some teeth.
Both of our friends/neighbors (both nurses) came over yesterday to have a look.
She is doing very well today.
Patty has Monday off of work as a matter of course, which is good.
When the blood was still coming out, I was worried that the Steri-Strip bandages should come off and be replaced. Very sticky in there own right, the Doctor used extra glue to hold them on. We kept cleaning up the blood, but could never truely get ahead of it. That’s why they included the glue.
They are supposed to naturally come off in about 48 hours. And now, 48 hours later they show a little sign of weakening. And the blood has been stopped since yesterday at about 9 am. The swelling is way, way down and everything seems OK.
Thanks again for your support and kind words.
That must be stressful, and you’re a good egg for keeping vigil and making sure she’s happy and comfortable. Even though you know it’s not life-threatening, it’s still stressful and anxiety-inducing. It’s hard watching someone you love in pain and discomfort. My thoughts are with you.
Thanks.
Thing is, especially because of the blood thinners, any injury to the head can be life threatening. Talked to the ER doc about this. Bleeding in the brain.
I couldn’t even stop her lip from bleeding Friday night.
Any sign of headach dizzyness or nausia and I was to get her back to the ER. Those where the directions from the ER doc. Hense the title of the tread.
How is Patty this evening, and did you get caught up on your sleep, enipla?
Doing great. Swelling is pretty much gone. Bandage is off with no more bleeding. Scabs stuck. Some infection (inpetigo) on her chin. Seems under control though.
Lucky, lucky girl.
Got a pretty solid 9 hours sleep last night and am back in the groove.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I like the Slimfast idea but you might try Ensure which is the same idea but more calories. Depends on whether she has body fat to spare but if she’s thin already she might could use the extra fuel.
Hope everything continues to improve.
Man that is not nice, tell her to get well soon
I did something similar once, spent a few weeks living on soup and milkshakes. If she gets sick of Slim Fast/Ensure, fruit smoothies can be a nice alternative (you’ll want a wide-gauge straw).
Best wishes for a quick recovery.
I’m not sure how I missed this thread, but ow ow ow!
What about some gentle salt water rinses? Helped me a lot last year after an extraction. I didn’t mind the taste, either, though some people do.
The bicyclists up here are multiplying by the day – it’s spring, after all, and is finally getting green and pretty. I always keep a sharp eye out but will keep an even sharper one.
Same here, I missed it also. You are a good spouse to take care of her like this.
I’ve done a Superman (gone over the bars) a couple of times, but never hit my face. Broken ribs, taken about 20 square inches of skin off my arm, but never the face. Ouch.
My spouse? gives me that look, and says you idiot.
No respect I tell you, no respect.
Seriously, look very closely at her helmet. If there is any damage what so ever, replace it. Take no chances, her head is not worth it. If it is a Bell, send it back with $10 and they will send you a new one (or at least they did the last time I broke one)
We did look real close. Not a scratch. Her face took it all.
It’s really crazy that she did not get hurt worse. Bandage is off now, and the cut on her lip did not bleed any more. The inside of her lip is cut up bretty bad, and some road rash on her chin and nose, but looks much, much better now. Today, she goes into work (desk job).
Eating is no real problem. And straws are working great for liquids.
Glad to hear that it wasn’t worse than it is - hope she recovers quickly!
