Thanks for your – dare i say it – feedback, TV Time. I’m actually blessed with a reporter-friendly editor who is a back patter. I don’t want to derail the thread into it being some type of “no one appreciates me and where does one go for kudos” – again, I sincerely appreciate the sentiments provided and it helps with gaining perspective on the profession as a whole.
So what exactly are you covering? Local issues and news? Those can be the trickiest because there’s more possibility of earning personal enmity from your subjects.
I’m thinking of journalism as a possible major, right now I’m in Canadian studies and I might change that to my minor with journalism as a major.
Anyone have any idea on the differences in Canadian journalism and American?
They pay you in Canadian dollars?
I worked briefly with a guy who worked on a paper in B.C. and he never mentioned any differences, but then again, I never asked either.

Yeah, you’d be amazed at the amount of crap you can get away with (especially in a small town) by telling people you’re with the paper (even more so if you have actual press credentials!). Technically-illegal parking goes unnoticed, you’re all but forced to eat for free when doing a story on an event/place that has food, you get guided tours of places nobody is allowed to go into*…
*crime scenes, burned-out houses, backstage, etc
I’m a Journalist in the Navy. Certainly doesn’t have your Fox news alarmist flash bang pizzaz, but I get the fair treatment of writing, news anchoring, and photography
