Unfortunately I won’t be there today or tomorrow lard But you can still enjoy the wonderfulness of the store!
Well, I had been shelving on the other side of the shelf from him earlier and looked through, and his hands were behaving himself and all and he looked fairly innocuous, just sitting and reading. But maybe he thought I could read his thoughts so he skedaddled when I got too close
Why isn’t there a row of computers or terminals I can walk over to, do a boolean search by author, title, subject, pub date, and/or publisher, and have it pop up a search-results screen that also says whether or not you’ve got it in stock and, if so, where, physically, I can find it?
I hate waiting on line behind book purchasers and other inquiring minds strung out in front of your counter to ask you, especially when the question is on the order of "where do you keep the books on hiking and camping’? or ‘where’s your computer-nerd section’?
[hijack] I’ve never understood why the hell grocery stores don’t have them either. [/hijack]
You could build one in FileMaker in one afternoon, you know, complete with highlighting maps showing your customers where there book is at in relation to where they are standing.
My store has computers all over the place. It’s not quite as involved as the system you want, but it’ll tell you if we have it in stock and a rough idea of where it is, down to a pretty good map of the store. So, umm, already have that.
Grocery stores don’t have them because they WANT you to walk through the whole store to find your stuff.
