I am not attempting to defend earlier persecutions of Jews by the RCC. You distinguished between the personal and collective guilt of the Jews for the death of Jesus in the context of Vatican II.
I am pointing out that, particularly since Vatican II, the RCC does not ascribe either personal or collective guilt for the crucifixion to the Jews.
Even before that time, it was never dogma that the Jews were to be held responsible for the crucifixion–although it was certainly a much cherished opinion among many Catholics, including too much of the hierarchy.
This was specifically addressed in my post of 12-05-2001 09:17 PM. The RCC does not claim that one must be Catholic to be saved.
