What **Lemur866** is right. The Aleuts are Indians or Native Americans and I believe they have tribes. However they are still Native Alaskans.

The cost of living in Kotzebue is high and even higher in the surrounding villages which leads to the hybrid subsistence living.

Per diem in Kotzebue per day is, I believe 219 for lodging, 93 for food and 23 for incidentals. If I am correct the US Government says a person can use over 300 dollars per day to survive.

The last I heard a gallon of milk and unleaded fuel is 9 to 10 dollars. Fresh veggies are at a premium.

Thanks for the clarification, and for the information about food security.

> Are the Wiki pages on the subject inaccurate? The page for [Eskimo](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eskimo) includes the Aleut, and the page for [the Aleut people](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aleut_people) refers to tribes. Or in that case, are you saying that “Aleutian” is not a proper term to use for the Aleut people rather than that they don’t have tribes? I may have been reading that part of your statement wrong.

**Lemur** addressed the Indian/Eskimo aspect. To clarify the other: Aleutian is not a proper term to use for the Aleut people. There are the Aleutian Islands, but it’s not like the Hawaiian Islands. People from the former are Aleuts, people from the latter are Hawaiians (perhaps something different in their own language).
