No, I never read anything other than the tracts and back then, since they didn’t seem very ubiquitous, no one cautioned me against them either. And I’m sure if anyone (like my youth pastor) felt even remotely negatively about it, they chalked it up to me being a holy roller. I mean, I was planning on being a missionary in NYC with David Wilkerson. :eek: Yes, the story was independent and tiny. I’d never even been in a chain Christian bookstore until after I was no longer a believer. This place might even still be there for all I know, but considering its location in Pleasant Grove (a no-longer-very-nice suburb of Dallas), I seriously don’t think it would be. Plus the owners were quite old even then, and that was almost 25 years ago. ---

did anyone ever react extremely negatively to your offers of giving them the material? ---

I ran into an elderly couple outside an abortion clinic when I was quite young- 17, I think- who tried to talk me out of “my” decision. It wasn’t, but I would have made the same one. They were friendly, gave me a cup of coffee, and earnestly debated with me once they realized that I wasn’t the one in charge, and more importantly, wasn’t going to be swayed by their plastic fetus models. They gave me my first- and only- Chick tract. ---

Most people who probably weren’t really interested just politely took them without seriously looking at them, then undoubtedly dumped them when out of sight. You should’ve held onto it. Might be a genuine collector’s item now, depending on how long ago it was and which tract. 🙂 ---

Instead of a life following instructions of a person in handing out these things did you consider that this is not how Jesus lived and is not how He instructed us to live? ---

Actually, they can reprint some discontinued titles if you place a special bulk order as long as they’re not out of circ because Chick changed his mind. I don’t think one could get the original non-Popey “The Beast” As “anti-gay” tracts go, Wounded Children at least shows some attempt by Chick to be compassionate & understanding- so of course it’s out of print! _L_ ---

I hope it’s not rude to point out the irony of you asking me this about a _Chick_ tract. 😛 (Or should I say HAW HAW HAW ?) Of course I knew. And ultimately, I have no problem with how Jesus lived (if true), but in how He’s been presented to us through scripture as what He instructed. See, that’s what I no longer view as infallible and therefore unable to follow. Sorry. But if you don’t mind me asking while you’re here… do you ever post on any topics other than religion?
