Ask the Los Angeles Native

Up here they say ‘I-5’ and ‘I-405’. It just sounds wrong!

I do have a Thomas Guide for L.A. and Orange County, and one for Seattle/Western Washington. I never use them. I knew my way around L.A. well enough, and I don’t get out much up here. (Besides, the Prius has GPS.)

Agreed on Abbot’s. I got nothing but love for their slices.
D’Amore’s is my favorite in the valley (Winnetka and Sherman Way); there is another D’Amore’s in Sherman Oaks, on the boulevard, though because of its locale, I believe that it may be pricier than the one in Canoga. As a side note, D’Amore’s is the pizza that is usually ordered by craft service for second meal on sets (at least when the producer is willing to spring for it - many times we do get stuck w Domino’s (ugh!!!)).
Second meal is given to the crew when a shoot goes into the 13th or 14th hour.

Nice! I grew up with his daughters, good to know he is doing well. I always forget about their pizza (was too pricy when I first moved away from the valley and now that I can afford it I have found others), but since his kids went to my elementary school we had “pizza day” every Thusday that he catered. I had D’Amore’s pizza once a week every week for 6 years.

We’re quite fond of Lido’s Pizza in Van Nuys. It’s really good plus it’s walking distance from home.

Oh god…Lido’s.

About the only thing I miss about the Valley.

And in answer to Spectre, I was born and raised in Los Angeles - spent most of my life there, but am now in Southern Utah.

Very relieved to be away from the El Lay scene.

Well, that’s two votes for Lido’s, so I am ordering pizza tonight. It seems to be in my neighborhood. (Close enough).

Born in L.A. County (Lakewood), childhood in San Diego, highshool and adultery… sorry, young adulthood in northern L.A. County (Lancaster), 17 years in L.A. at Clarington and Palms, one year in Torrance.

And I too am glad to be away from Hell-A. Oh, I miss the lane-splitting on the bikes. And sometimes I think I’d do something naughty for a Carl’s Jr. Jalapeno Burger or some Del Taco or Tito’s. But now I have a house by the beach, and it’s not so freakin’ hot all the time!

Pizza: Mama’s was good for their ‘Monster’. Mmmm… MEAT!!!

Also The Coop. This was just around the corner from my apartment. Good slices, good pepperoni pizza, and very good calzones.

BTW the City of L.A. sits in the County Of L.A., which is about 10 times as big. Obviously, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, and Culver City can’t escape belonging to L.A. County. This is the opposite of NYC, which is five counties making up one legally defined city.

But in everyday usage, L.A. almost never means the county, except very loosely.
