Ask the maximum security prison physician

QtM, I haven’t been around much lately but I saw this thread and had to check it out.

As usual, any thread with your name on it is both entertaining and informative. And it’s nice to hear that things are going well for you!

How has being a prison doctor changed your colleagues (in other prisons) over the long term? Say 10 and 20 years. Are you concerned by what you see?

Do you think your new mode of behaviour is going to be of assistance when your daughters (if any) start dating?

Wow interesting… I’ve been reading all the prison threads now that I actually know someone in prison (my brother)

He had to wait a few weeks to get in to see the doctor even with a fever/vomiting and ringworm! How long does it usually take for inmates where you are to “get an appointment?”

My colleagues were a mixed bag of nuts even in private practice. I’m not worried about how it will affect me in the long run.

My 18 year old daughter is in college, so she’s out from under my thumb. My 14 year old daughter will have to abide by the same rules as the older one did. The only difference is that now I have actually qualified with weaponry.

Depends. Ringworm is pretty low priority. Vomiting up everything for over 12 hours would merit a trip to see the nurse, who would drag me into it if indicated. If the visit is deemed to not be truly emergent or urgent, the inmate will need to come up with the $7.50 copay.

I find in prison the symptoms are quite frequently inflated to sound far more impressive than they are. One twenty-something guy complains of horrible back pain which is incapacitating him for weeks and requires narcotics, which I don’t give him. Then security reports he’s been playing basketball 4 times a week during the same time period he tells me he can’t work!

A psychiatrist covered in outrageous tatoos - there’s something really ironic about that.

I think I would either be really wary of going to a shrink like that, or it would be really cool. Not sure which, though…

Oh, it’s waaaay coo. He’s one hoopy frood who really knows where his towel is!

QtM - Do you know in what way Uruk-hai are different from Orcs? I know Saruman bred them, but from what? Thanks!

Ummmmmmmmmm. Yes, I do. Ask me in Cafe Society.

What are the top five (or so) things you have learned since the last post in this thread, almost a decade ago?

Humerous anecdotes are also acceptable.

He probably learned to stay away from bagel-dogs.

Oh, man, I’d almost forgotten that thread. Thanks for reviving an almost-dead neuron!
