Two or three weeks ago, I bought my starter kit. An iTaste LEO. Turns out I used to work with the guy who is the proprietor of my vape shop.
I picked three juices: Aztec, Moonglow, and Pear. The Aztec is the one I use the most, since it tastes the most like tobacco (with a nice cookie-flavored aftertaste).
The first week, I was doing good. I decided to start leaving my cigarettes at home in favor of the vape. I can’t stop being surprised at how cool people in public are about it. They act as if I’m blowing perfume or something into the air, which is just fine for me.
This week is proving to be a struggle. I’m getting back to my pre-vape cigarette levels, since the vape no longer provides the “throat-hit” I initially got. I tried changing out my tank, but that’s no help. I think I’ve just gotten used to the throat-hit.
What nicotine level, and PG/VG combination are you using? I probably can’t help you because I’m not familiar with your kit, but I figured others with better advice would ask that too.
My update: June 9 marked one full year of me not smoking cigarettes. Whoop! After 43 years of smoking that’s a huge thing for me. Thank goodness for vaping.
That would be my question too…perhaps you need higher nicotine levels? Also the higher the VG (vegetable glycerin) the lower the throat hit. I ordered some VG-only juice once but it did nothing for me - I ended up giving it away. I looked up your kit - I have two of these (because, sparkly) and love them, great product IMO. So I’m guessing better juice will help? If you have a local vape shop, lucky you! Ask the owner for recommendations. I wasted a bunch of money initially on juice that didn’t hit the spot, and it wasn’t until I figured out what worked for me that I could ditch the cigarettes completely.
I’ve been vaping for over a year and can still get a good throat hit. If your device has adjustable voltage, make sure you are using the right voltage. You’ll need to know how many ohms (*resistance) your atomizer is. See Chart Make sure you stay in the green. Go above the green and you could burn your mod out. Plus get a nasty burnt taste in the process. Too low and you wont be getting the vape hit you want.
Also, and this is important, don’t pull too hard when you’re taking a vape. For the throat burning vapes, take easy pulls for extended times. 3 or 4 second (or heck even longer) pulls. I know this may seem awkward at first but you’ll get used to it.
Try changing your atomizer, or at least cleaning it if your tank comes apart for cleaning.
Many people don’t clean their tanks or attys, just keep refilling it until it dies, but I find that more than 48 hours on a dirty tank/atty, and I start getting a tickly throat cough, which puts me off of the vape, and makes me take tiny hits which aren’t satisfying. So I rotate between two tanks, cleaning yesterday’s each morning and letting it thoroughly dry out while I vape on the second tank.
While you have the tank off, look at the battery where it connects. Is there any liquid in there, or dark gunky stuff? Gently wipe it off with a Q-Tip. Some tanks leak a little at the battery contact, and that can reduce the effectiveness of the battery, as well as making it not charge so well if your battery charges on that end. Get in the habit of wiping it clean periodically and you’ll get better contact and a better battery lifespan.
To add to what everyone else is saying: be prepared to spend some money trying different setups, until you find what works best for you. In the end, you’ll have spent far less that you would have buying cigarettes.
I’ve been vaping for almost 3 1/2 years. For the first two years I used Ego-type batteries, which are not variable voltage, before plunking down some cash for a VV mod. That was a HUGE improvement.
Atomizers (or coils for clearomizers, etc.) don’t last forever. Until recently I always dripped. I would order five atomizers at a time, and inevitably at least one from each batch would only last a few days, while others might last a couple of months. It’s possible that the coils you’ve used so far just didn’t last.
Most vendors mix their juice 50/50 PG/VG, and like mentioned above, the higher the PG the better the throat hit. Conversely, the higher the VG, the bigger the clouds of vapor you exhale are. I couldn’t care less about that, I want the throat hit.
I’ve been using a vendor for over a year that allows you to specify your PG/VG level: http://www.ecblendflavors.com/. I’ve found that a 70/30 18 mg mix works best for me.
Oh yeah, that LEO setup looks to be a 3.7 volt battery, but I’m not seeing the resistance for the coils it uses. For a 3.7 battery, you probably want a resistance of 2.0 or less. You’re looking for your “sweet spot” - the optimal wattage, which for me is around 8.5 watts. See the chart Shakes posted.
The nice thing about a VV mod is that you can use a higher resistance coil, and crank up the volts, which to me produces a better vape. YMMV, of course.
I quit cigs in January of last year and have been vaping ever since. My workplace is pretty chill. I’m fortunate that I can vape at my desk. I got one of my coworkers onto ecigs, too. Well, he saw me vaping and asked questions and got *himself *onto ecigs… anyway, his wife and infant child are (reportedly) much happier now.
I’m wondering if anyone else noticed headaches at high nic concentrations? I had to cut back from 24mg to 18mg because I like to vape constantly all day. Fortunately, they stopped immediately after I made the switch.
I started with 32 mg (some vendors offer juice levels that high or even higher) and am at 18 mg currently. No headaches along the way. My attempts to go lower than 18 mg have failed so far - insufficient throat hit.
I’ve seen some vendors with 36 mg - here’s just one. Discussion of other vendors here. Also, caffeine additive for e-juice!
I’ve thought about trying 100 percent PG juice in a lower nic level to see if that would provide enough throat hit. I would like to eventually taper down to zero, then I’ll know I’m truly not addicted to nicotine any more.
This is the start of my fourth week without a cigarette. I wasn’t intending on quitting I wanted something to use at work were tobacco smell is frowned upon. The day I bought my 20$ kit (with liquid) and had it charged up was the last day I had an urge to smoke. 20 years worth of cigarettes gone in 20$ :smack: (I did buy another kit just to have a spare always charged!)
I am using a mixture of 24mg and 0mg criss cross liquid now (the last week) going through a 10ml bottle a week. I was shocked when I went from 24mg to 12mg I didn’t use more, but I noticed I shared a problem that I knew but couldn’t explain.
The throat hit! That has been lacking the last week, I have already cleaned my device which did result in a larger oomph but now looking at the links in here and the fellow vapors I have to ask… which brand/flavor combo best suits a rough full flavor camel/winston online?
The 24mg has all the throat hit I want, as for investing in new wares I may but for now my inexpensive puffers work wonders not that I haven’t saved enough in the 3 weeks lol (2 to 3 pack a day habit)
Any recommendations online for a good Turkish blend? I was going through the link chiroptera posted and may try the Dekang blends (I specifically seen Winston in the drop downs)
This isn’t just for me, my grandmum needs to quit and her doctor told my mum if we can get her to vap she will be better off. This was brought up by my mum at the doctors because she was impressed at my quitting so easily. But my grandmum is in a bad spot atm, my pappy just passed away and 65 years with someone to lose them and then to have to quit… I just want to make it easier on her.
And she smoked the same brand as me, or probably realistically I smoked the same brands as her. Any suggestions on good hitting vaps (or MODS for that matter, easier to maintain for her would be wonderful along with long battery life/larger liquid reserve) Mine are perfect for me but only hold 1.5ml or so which would be fine but her issues we would have to fill them when we go to her house and a larger storage would be great.
Thanks again, and seriously tell everyone. We can be quitters!
Okay, the milligram level isn’t going to help get the throat hit you want you unless you have a decent delivery system. A mod with an adjustable voltage level will help you figure out your “sweet spot” WRT throat hit.
As for recommendations for a good Turkish blend? I buy from a local vendor so unless you live in Dallas, I can’t help you there. (BTW, Turkish blend is my flavor of choice too.)
Good for you! I also started vaping for harm reduction and without intending to quit completely, but quit I did.
As an aside and even though I posted a link (for an example, not as a recommendation) I wouldn’t buy Dekang e-liquid. IMHO it’s low-quality and Made In China besides. Although it sounds like you’re not in the US, so your options may be different than here? This place is very highly-rated for their tobacco flavors plus they’re local to me but there are tons of great vendors out there.
I’m not a hardware geek when it comes to vaping, and others posting here are more knowledgeable on that front. I’m very happy with basic KGO batteries and low resistance clearomizers. These are what I typically take to work. The clearos tend to be a bit iffy on quality (some leak, or don’t heat up correctly) so every few months I will buy about ten of them so I have back-ups. I also have two innokin itaste mods. A bit pricier but the battery lasts for days between charges and they’re easier easier to fit with a much larger tank. Downside is they are not the shape and feel of a regular cigarette, which might be harder for your grandmum to adjust to.
A) It doesn’t work for everyone and
B) Can you tell us what you’re using? Style, brand, flavor, nicotine level, what the liquid’s made of?
C) What specifically triggers your desire to smoke each cigarette through the day? Emotion? Stress? Food? Routine? Boredom? Need for a break? Gotta poop? Taste?
