I’m considering applying for a new job, but the ad for the job says to send my salary requirements along with my resume and cover letter. How do I know what range is reasonable? Obviously, one of the reasons for considering a new job is to make more than what I’m making now. But I don’t want to give a range that’s too high, and end up pricing myself out of the running. However, I also don’t want to give a number that’s too low and earn less than I could. I looked at the salary calculator on [monster.com](http://monster.com), but there’s nothing there that’s comparable to the job I’m considering. I’m going to be talking to the outgoing employee (the one whose job I’m applying for); is it ok to ask her for a rough estimate of the salary that would be reasonable? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Try [www.salary.com](http://www.salary.com) , it has worked for me in the past.
