I think that you think much more deeply about what you think others think of you than others actually think of you.

I’ve also run into the problem of all these entrees being way too big for one person to eat. It’s stupid and ridiculous. Especially when the entree is already big enough for two people AND comes with a soup and salad. They seriously expect me to eat all that?

But what I discovered is if you go to a higher-end restaurant, the portions become _normal human sized_. As in, I can actually have an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert, all without stuffing myself. What this does mean is that for two people, the cost will be around $100 even without drinks involved. But damn, the food is so much better, and you’re not stuck with a bag of slop afterwards. I dream of some of those meals to this day.

There is a great little Italian restaurant that serves huge portions. We usually skip lunch and spend all afternoon working around the house and barn when we plan on having dinner there.

It is BYOB, so we bring two bottles and enjoy a loooong leisurely meal. I finish mine, my gf still needs a box.🙂

> Really? To me that would look like he’s _trying too hard_ to impress me. Wrapping up and giving away worthwhile leftovers, i.e. not the excised gristle from his steak and a sprig of parsley, is a natural act of decency. Approaching a homeless person and making a grand gesture of ordering him a meal seems over the top.

The difference is that in one instance, the guy is giving away something of little value (and expecting to impress me by doing so). In the other instance, he’s giving the homeless guy the human dignity of choosing for himself his own meal.

It’s not about the food at all, in my opinion, except in as much as the first scenario involves food that the giver doesn’t want, anyway. The giver is giving away something that has little value to himself.
