Aspect ratios of New TVs

Great answers folks. Thank you.

I do not YET have an HD receiver; that’s the next upgrade.

I’ve compromised on the “zoom” setting which leaves a bit off the top and bottom, but fills the entire screen, and maintains the correct aspect ratio. Of course when I’m not around the rest of the family switches to wide-screen and for some apparent reason cannot see the “squishiness.”

So, zoom mode for now, and HD to follow later.

Cheers.

I think zoom is a good compromise. As you say, you keep your aspect ratio, and 99% of the time you don’t lose anything worthwhile from the top and bottom.
