Oh come on. We know nothing of the thief’s wealth relative to the OP. He/she/they could be a professional bike thief/thieves with much higher incomes - as if that’s even relevant. All that is known is that the bike is gone. Not my whom, nor for what reason. Oh, way to blame the victim, BTW. Too bad this wasn’t a rape thread, huh? I’d love to see you spin that subject into an anti-tax screed (not really, in case you didn’t pick up on that). I’m beginning to think that your heart isn’t in this argument. The OP is selfish? Hi guys! I’m an incredibly bored person with a mental defect that causes me to delight in derailing other people’s conversations for the purpose of making the discussion about myself and my own personal dislike for paying taxes using absurd analogies. I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind it too terribly if I thrust myself into the middle of this particular topic, and dropped a turd in your collective punch bowls, so I could feel just the faintest hint of not being completely irrelevant. Oh, how I wish I could manage to provoke reactions with my neanderthal analogies. By the sweet mercy of the internets, I can already feel a warmth spreading throughout my body. It is the sweet, delicious heaven that is provoking group urination on myself. Golly but I can’t get enough of the golden shower of reactions to my trolling. What’s this? Incredibly, impossibly, a thought arises in my defective brain… isn’t this just a little sad and pathetic? I could be doing something with my life other than trying to provoke total strangers into pissing on me. But the moment passes. Once a public degradation fetishist, always a public degradation fetishist. Do not be angry at me, for I am a truly sad and pathetic individual. Just think… if your piss is the sweet nectar of life to someone like me, then imagine how bad the rest of my life must be. Oh wait, I see \*\*Terr \*\*has beaten me to the punch. You know, \*\*Terr \*\*has a point. This would be redistribution of wealth, and I would be for bike theft, if there were some sort of governmental oversight program to verify that the thief made under a certain amount of income annually, and that the OP made over a certain amount, and this inequity wasn’t accounted for in any other way. I mean, if we found out that Mitt Romney owned 218 bicycles and some poor homeless guy really, really needed one but couldn’t begin to afford one, I might support a bike theft program to see that those needs were addressed. Of course, it’s probably more efficient to arrange for this through some one-stop shopping program, like say a federal income-tax program, so you wouldn’t need to set up another federal bureaucracy to be administered separately, but what do I know? I’m a liberal. IOW, **Terr** , consider this another liberal frothing hysterically out-of-control with bile directed at you irrationally, which is how you seem to need to treat everyone who responds negatively to you, i.e., anyone with an attached brainstem. ---

You have, altogether, $40K in your IRA/house equity/bank accts etc, and you earn $20K/year. The thief’s assets are zero and he is unemployed. You’d be fine with him stealing your bike, right? ---
