Yikes. I saw them in Austin in 1966 when they were _Sergio Mendes and Brasil_… you guessed it: “_66_.” Their albums are the soundtrack of my college years, 1966-1970. Damn, I’m old. ---

The music of The Girl from Ipanema always makes me think of ‘elevator music’. And when bossa nova is mentioned unfortunately my mind goes to the [Bosco Nova commercials from the 60s](https://youtu.be/nJQvJjsFhVk?t=53). ---

Sorry if this makes you feel older, but _Mas Que Nada_ from the Brasil '66 album happens to be one of the earliest things I can remember. My dad gave me extremely heavy exposure in infancy to Mendes, Jobim, Joao Gilberto, etc., and it’s all permanently imprinted. ---

When my parents got all the Jobim LPs during the Bossa Nova craze I was the right age to have them make a lasting impression on my musical tastes. I kinda liked the cover art of the woman covered in whipped cream too although I wasn’t really sure why. Yet. I certainly recall Bosco. Ate lots of it; far better than Hershey’s syrup IMKO\*. And I recall they had some _great_ ads. I sure do not remember the _Bosco nova_ ad. Probably a good thing. 🙂 * * * \* In My Kidly Opinion ---

Now, Mas Que Nada is one of the few songs I really don’t know if I like it or not. Hard to explain…my aunt said, it’s like those cookies you keep eating and. you don’t know if you like them or not. You eat them, but…do you like them? ---

That was always one of my favorites. Sort of, I don’t know, abstract. Lots going on at different levels of the rhythm, the melody instruments, the vocal sound effects, and the lyrics.
