At what point do you call the cops with nothing but a vauge suspicion?

You have simplified the facts to a ridiculous extreme. Please offer a reasonable explanation for numerous cars parking in front at all hours of the day and night, honking their horns to bring out a resident resulting in a brief exchange before the car drives away. Once or twice a day? Maybe. All the time? It is suspicious as hell. That is exactly what happened across the street from me. They were dealing drugs. In a week 50 or 60 **different ** cars would stop for a few minutes and then drive away.

Have you ever played street ball? I have. We would never choose to play in an intersection rather than a proper court in a park. There is something other than basketball going on there.

No explanation is required. This is America.

Maybe Zsofia is being nosy. But “nosy” is a vague term, and either way nosy or not calling the police is definitely the right thing to do here. Maybe these people are just very active socially. But more than likely several laws are being broken even if no drugs are even being used recreationally in the house. For example many cities you aren’t allowed to have X number of unrelated people living in one home, I think Zfsofia said something like 6 guys (and apparently the two mysterious female owners) apparently live in the house? On top of that there are cars constantly outside honking, and basketball being played in the middle of the night. Depending on the volume of all this we could be talking about disturbing the peace.

And lets be honest, more than likely these people are drug dealers. Diogenes has tried to turn this into some moral debate. Well let me end it here. 1) Drugs are illegal, 2) because people are too stupid to know what’s good for them, that’s right, people (especially potheads) are too stupid to know what’s best for them, that’s why government has to prohibit drugs. If you want to wax philosophic and cry about how drug use is perfectly moral, then you can do so. But I live in the real world, our court system and our legislators and our people have all decided that some drugs are going to be illegal and the selling of some drugs are going to be illegal. If you don’t like the social contract, the idea that government makes certain decisions that individuals aren’t capable of making, then take your hefty bag of weed and coke, build a raft, and drift out into the pacific somewhere and no one will bother you as you bake alive under the hot sun as you spend your last days high and wacked out of your mind. Government exists for various functional reasons that I’m sure most of us learned in civics class in High School. Ultimately part of being a functional member of society and not some pathetic pot smoking anarchist who’s greatest achievement in life would be to die and have their cadaver put to use by a local medical school is coming to accept that government gets to make decisions FOR you. Government gets to decide what is legal and what is not, government gets to decide how illegal acts are dealt with and punished, government gets to decide when and how we go to war. Of course the caveat to that is, theoretically we as citizens are what constitutes “government.” Societies create government to do what is best for society. They don’t create governments to decide moral issues of the day. Maybe pot smoking isn’t immoral, maybe it’s IMMORAL to prohibit pot smoking. But society has decided for itself that pot smoking is bad for society, thus it is prohibited.

But for god’s sake stop the ignorant ramblings about how “the man” is on an “evil crusade” against your “precious grass.” Nothing is more pathetic than some indigent drug abuser trying to disguise his lust for illicit substances as some sort of moral crusade against totalitarianism.

You know, for a really smart guy who is capable of constructing a tight argument you sure can say some dumbass things. What does a requirement have to do with anything? What does being in America have to do with it? Do you never wonder at odd behavior? Or do you say to yourself “Mustn’t question. Mustn’t question. No explanations required in America?”

Kalhoun was latching onto a single part of the OP as if it were the main point. I was pointing out that the parade of cars was what really raises suspicion. Although apparently in your world nothing is ever suspicios. It either is or is not criminal, and everything that is not proven to be criminal by default must not be.

This being America and all, and explanations frowned upon when not required, I submit that 95% of what you post on this board should be excised, including your wonderfully informative explanations about the Bible. They being not required and all.

I’d rather live in Zsofia’s neighborhood than Diogenes the Cynic’s. (But Roseville is pretty nice)

I think having people that care about the neighborhood are a good thing to have. My buddy is the head of the Minnesota Gang Strike task force, and he has plenty of entertaining stories of gangs moving into neighborhoods that you’d never expect. They see it as Business and that is a growth strategy. Would you rather deal where the competition is tight and risks are high?

The basketball, the racial complexion, the late nights. None of that I see as bothersome, and if that was the only complaint she had I’d tell her to take a chill pill. But the traffic patterns are a whole 'nother story. I commend her for taking the responsibilty to assure her neighborhood is safe. And I would do the same thing.

Definitely call. If you’re worried about being found out, call from a pay phone. Also you can give some misinformation, e.g. “That’s where one of my co-workers buys drugs.”

Don’t do this. It’s morally reprehensible and (I think; IANAL) illegal.

I was dumb and called on my cel phone. :frowning: Didn’t really think about it. I guess I’ll just have to trust that the cops won’t rat the rat.

They have zero interest in doing that. If my experience is typical, they won’t do much of anything at all. Small time dealers are extremely low priority. I went to the police in person and spoke to the detective in charge of my district. He told me that there simply were not enough resources to investigate such concerns beyond an increased drive-by presence. Your name will never come up. Good on you for looking out for your neighborhod. I truly believe that change comes from a grass roots level, if you will excuse the pun.

More citing for drug dealing being a bad thing.

From the cite –

Hell yeah. Let’s have a drug dealer on every corner. Spruce up the neighborhood. What?

Well, I myself am learning how to garden organically, so I was thinking maybe we could start a partnership - I could grow weed, they could sell their narcotics, we could have a drive through one stop shopping experience! (When the cops come by to look at my “oregano farm” I’ll be sure to tell them to mind their own damned business, and no I don’t have to explain it because this is America!)

Damn straight. Or not so straight.

This is too weird but I have a garden in my front yard. I fertilize organically but when the bugs started eating the fruits of my labor I zapped 'em. Good luck!

That would be criminal and despicible.

Why do you care if its criminal? We only need to support the laws we agree with, right? Who are you to say that Plan B is doing wrong?

You’ve said this at least twice in this thread. You need to go back and read the OP. In fact, she didn’t notice them before the painters because the painters were there first.

Like I said, that only goes for crimes without victims. Nice try, though.

I’ve got a couple thoughts concerning this thread.
First: Have you all forgotten what forum you are posting in?? I don’t give a damn who said what first, I want this backbiting and name-calling to stop right now. If you have a calm and reasonable response to the OP, give it here. If, on the other hand, you want to have throw childish insults around, take it to the BBQ Pit.
Second: This thread might make more sense if people read the OP and responded to it, not someone else’s reinterpretation and embellishment of it.

I have to admit that this is one of the most childish threads I’ve seen in IMHO in a long time, and most of you know better than to act like this here.

[Moderator Underoos on]This is definitely illegal, Plan B-do not post in this manner again.[/Moderator Underoos on]

When I asked these questions

you said this

Note the conjunctive “or.” Your answer ‘yes’ to the second question clearly indicates that it is not only victimless crimes that are abhorrent, but that we are allowed to pick and choose among crimes for the ones to which we will provide support to the police. That being the case, who are you to proclaim any act at all "criminal and despicable? "

If they’re dealing, they’re pretty dumb, calling so much attention to themselves. And they should expect someone to look out their window, what with all the honking. (People who honk their horn because they’re too lazy to park and go to the door deserve to get attention.) But OP’s already called the cops, and should just keep an eye out. Maybe she’ll see something tangible. She’s just looking out her own window.

How can those kids play basketball in a busy street?
