If second-class citizenship, officially sanctioned Kristallnacht-style harassment, or roundups of US citizens or Green Card holders based on national origin, race, religion, or some other protected status begins, we’re outta’ here. I don’t mean microaggressions or the kind of discrimination we see now, but rather, revoking the voting rights or limiting the right to free movement for Muslims, star-and-crescent armbands, and the like.

> Granted, in the '70s, there were a few countries that made it nearly impossible for an American to get a visa, but there aren’t any now. But quite a few charge a much higher visa fee to Americans, and that is retaliatory (they use the euphemism “reciprocal”), so there may be added difficulty for Americans traveling the world.

Am I parsing this correctly - reworded, I see “No country would do that except some that have and some that do”.
