The Veterans Administration has many standard “emblems of belief,” including one for atheists, that can be placed on gravestones. There’s even a process to propose a new one.
Dewey Finn, I’d just meant at the standard 10 inches, or so, above ground, they’re not going to be very noticeble while going past at 55 mph. And I think this group wants whatever memorial they choose to be noticed
I’m kinda torn on this one. I think they definitly have a point, but I worry that picking a fight over it is going to do more harm than good.
They have a major point, and I would be highly offended to see such ridiculously large and faith-pushing symbols on highways. The government isn’t supposed to do things like that. They could pick a much more reasonable symbol and not one tied to a major religious holiday.
And, got to say, I didn’t realize atheists had an emblem, and when I saw it I remember seeing it proposed somewhere and thinking it was the ugliest, most stupid thing in the world. Those emblems aren’t what going by the side of the road in this case, but I’d be offended as an atheist to see that monstrously twee thing there as well.
