[/QUOTE] Oh, yeah, the rotten tater fling. Much fun. We end up doing that on a regular basis because we put our potatoes down in a low cabinet…and then forget them. I am tallish (5’8") so I can reach the high shelves. However, I once had a shortish boyfriend who was slightly disconcerted by my height. He joked that he would make me get things off the shelves for him instead of using a stepladder. ---

Frank, don’t be a putz. OpalCat, I live just down the road (actually, just inside the Perimeter, right next to the river). I’m 46, I’ve moved 30 times, and the last time professionals were involved was 1970. I have the functional IQ of a tarsier, but can follow simple instructions. Having said that – I’ll have to check with my social manager about next Saturday, so I can’t make a promise now. But I’ll come help if I’m free. ---

If any doper who lived in driving distance asked for help moving, I would be there in a blink. It sounds like a fun way to get to know your fellow dopers. If someone doesn’t fell like this is a good plan, there are 3,418 other threads to visit. ---

I had to move just a few weeks ago after living in the area for only 6 months, and the only people I knew were from work. It’s not always easy finding people to help you move. ---

I keep a set of jumper cables inside my vehicle at all times. I’ve never needed them for myself, but I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve come upon strangers whose cars wouldn’t start, and my cables and I have gotten them up and running again. These hapless motorists almost always offer me money for my assistance, and I always refuse it. I see from this thread that **Frank** would probably take the money if offered, or demand it if not. ---

[/QUOTE] Do you really not see any difference in offering to jump someone’s car when A) you’re already at the location and B) you already have cables, and helping someone move their entire life’s possessions?
