Atlantis is Antartica?

(NOTE-It seemed appropriate given the thread. It went over very well in Hiryu’s threads. But, if my fellow dopers feel that I’ve gone too far, I apologize. In that case, ignore the following. If, OTOH, they feel I’m staying within the the proper boundaries, ignore the previous and read the following.)

I’m sorry if I’ve said something to upset you. But, you asked for the truth about Atlantis. I gave it to you. I meant no offense to you as an Atlantean or an Australian. Once again, I offer my knowledge only to be yelled at.

Sadly because of quacks like Velikovsky or Chiu, many people don't take my researches seriously. There are times I feel like giving up-when I'm tempted to say that I've been joking the whole time. But I'm not. I'm sitting on a seat cushion held up by an antigravity device. The AGD is powered by a perpeual motion engine. My modem is not connected to a phone line. It is patched in to the quantum foam. My computer receives and transmits through the foundation of the cosmos itself(Yet I still can't get a download speed of over 4kb per second. Go figure).

I never said that you did believe in the theories you cited. You, commendably, wanted facts with which to disprove them. While the age of the ice sheet disproves that one false theory, I have given you the one true theory. I agree with you the Antarctica-as-Atlantis-theory is ludicrous. I never assumed you to be an adherent of it. You knew it was crap, but you wanted the facts to counter it. The other posters gave you facts about Antarctica-proving that it was not Atlantis. I gave you facts about Atlantis-proving that it was not Antarctica.

In this case, the double negative leads to proof positive: Antarctica is Atlantis!

::runs::

Just to tidy this up, the Vostok cores by themselves don’t disprove this theory. It was not necessary for the entirety of Antarctica to be free of ice.

Having said that, I found a map showing that Antarctica had been cored such that you couldn’t fit an Atlantis into it (link in the other thread that tomndebb refers to).

Also, I think GH is regretting not doing this himself - he’s written an article on his own site that indicates that he doesn’t believe the Antarctica thing anymore (although he is so careful with what he says that he doesn’t really say anything).

As to a Flood, I like the new (to me, anyway) theory of the flooding of the Black Sea being the source of the Middle East flood myths. I’m willing to believe in a “global flood”, but only affecting coastal regions (although, if you lived in the middle of the Black Sea, I imagine it did seem that the whole world had been flooded :slight_smile: ).

The reason some people responded with not-so-serious posts is that Atlantis is fiction. Are we going to scour every square mile of Earth to prove that Oz was never there? Perhaps we shouldn’t discount the existence of Pellucidar until every single cave has been explored in its entirety? Shangri-La? The Bat Cave?

Disprove Pellucidar if you have to, but if we disprove Barsoom Tars Tarkas and his posts will cease to exist.

Well, then, if Shangri-La did not exist, where did the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo come from? I trust F.D.R.!!! :wink:
