The odd thing is, in _Atlas Shrugged_ Ayn Rand predicted this would happen… she just didn’t think it happen to her own stuff…

> She noticed Mort Liddy, who had turned it on, waving to a group of friends, yelling “That’s it! That’s it! I want you to hear it!”

> The great burst of sounds was the opening chords of Halley’s Fourth Concerto. It rose in tortured triumph, speaking of its denial of pain, its hymn to a distant vision. Then the notes broke. It was as if a handful of mud and pebbles had been flung at the music, and what followed was the sound of the rolling and the dripping. It was Halley’s Concerto turned into a popular tune. It was Halley’s melody torn apart, its holes stuffed with hiccoughs. The great statement of joy had turned into the giggling of a barroom.

So, this is the “Mort Liddy” version of Atlas Shrugged, it seems like.
What I tried to do, the task I was given, I was given three scripts. Two of the scripts were from people who are active Rand followers. Those people were involved in the first two films. It didn’t work for me so I began a page-one rewrite with one of the producers, Harmon Kaslow. And we agreed that the only way to get something that would appeal to audiences outside the Rand base, was to round the edges off the philosophical bent which she was very strict about.
Yeah. I agree the first two weren’t very good, but this one makes me really wonder about the third one. Maybe Ayn Rand’s ghost will come back to life and blow it up.

“Let’s make an Ayn Rand film, but with out any of that pesky _philosophy_ stuff! Just put in lots of sex and explosions!”
