I did too.

I know that the word “tard/retard” is still used, but I wish it wasn’t. It’s a perfectly good word, meaning “slower”, which people sometimes are. But it carries too much baggage with it.

The people who bag my groceries are Sarah and Stuart. Stuart carried the Olympic torch this past year, because of his performance and advocacy for Special Olympics. Sarah just got married last spring.

They are “tards”. But it doesn’t matter to anyone who works with or knows them. They’re just people, like the rest of us.

I’d call the people in the OP stupid or jerks, because I wouldn’t want to hurt Sarah or Stuart with a name that somebody once called them, because the name caller didn’t even know who Sarah or Stuart was.

Hmmm. I never run into problems like this. My strategy must be working. Whenever I’m in public, I put on a “don’t even think of screwing with me” scowl. It’s a rare person that will try to deal with it.
