You know how the media worship supermodels? So thin! So tall! So lovely to behold!

Well, I’ll tell you something: A woman who is 5 feet, 11 inches tall can’t find clothing that fits AND looks smashing. If the world digs tall women so much, why won’t the world make us some damn threads?!

No, I don’t want to shop at a site called [longtallsally.com](http://longtallsally.com).

No, I don’t want to pay extra for “tall-proportioned” clothing at [eddiebauer.com](http://eddiebauer.com). (If my clothing is really costing the company so much more for material and labor, why not offer a discount for petite sizes? Huh? Huh?) OK! OK! I’ll take it, Eddie, no matter what price. … What do you mean, it’s not in stock? What do you mean, it’s not expected to BE in stock? _ **WHAT DO YOU MEAN, YOU ARE DISCONTINUING LONG-TORSO SWIMSUITS?!** _

Picture yourself leaving the mall with a shopping bag emblazoned with: “Bowel-a-rific: The Incontinence Superstore.” You’d be humiliated, right? Call me sensitive, but I don’t want to be seen traipsing through Palisades Center with a bag that says: “Tall Girl.” Just think of the snickers from teenage boys in the food court. The slogan might as well be: “Tall Girl: Where the Savvy Freak Shops!” … Not that Tall Girl is that much of a draw, with all those 100 percent polyester pants, rayon tops, and nylon/spandex blazers \*loaded with ghastly … gold … buttons[i/].

Bleh. I am hating height.

Hey **Mercy** , I got a deal for ya. I’m 5’0" (grumblegrumble, okay 4’11" and three-quartersgrumblegrumble). I say we buy the same wardrobe, and you can take what I need to trim off! Same pair of slacks, I’ll trim it up 3 inches, and you can add that 3 inches to your pair! I’m an excellent seamstress, c’mon let’s give it a try!

I think **Jetgirl** is on to something. The store I worked at had pants with a 36" inseam for the Gazelle Girls, but were there any 28" inseams for smurfs like me? Noooo.

I don’t know if it helps, but my best friend is 5’10" and I think she is the most beautiful creature ever to walk the earth. Not a freak at all. Plus, when I hug her my cheek ends up right on the pillowy slope of her bountiful bosom. Bonus!

Goodness, gracious girls! Don’t fret, and remember that good things come in small packages. A short nightie, skimpy lingerie and a tight fitting … _pair of underwear!_ (Yes … that’s what I wanted to type …) A short woman with the least amount of grace almost automatically assumes a level of daintiness most red-blooded men find irresistible. Coworkers nearly strangled my Asian lover when she earnestly complained to them about how hard it was to find size zero outfits.

Grrr… long pants… bane of my existence. I’m also nearly 5’10" with a long inseam. Bless Old Navy for making nice, cheap long jeans, and actually having them _in stock!_. If only they made the sleeves of their shirts long enough. I’ve learned to make a fashion statement out of keeping them shoved up to my elbows rather than look ridiculous with 3" of my wrists showing.

I also found some nice slacks in Long at Express, though they run about $60.

My sister is six-foot-two-and-a-half and was _thrilled_ to discover Tall Girls. She bought three pairs of pants and was walking around all day hugging the bag and saying “I have PANTS!” in a tone of great joy.

Petite? Petite my ass! Do you know how friggin’ difficult it is to find anything for short _thin_ people? It’s like the whole fashion world assumes that if you’re sub-standard height you must not be proportional! Sure, I can buy petite, but then I’m swimming in everything! Sadly enough, if it weren’t for all the revealing styles I’d probably be shopping in the kid’s section. Seriously though, I don’t think they make anything in petites with a waist size smaller than 32. It’s ridiculous.

We should start an ‘odd one out’ line of clothing made for the ridiculous extremes. I think we could make a killing!

Ohhh yeah. Every season is a crisis. Every shopping trip a living hell. I have to admit though, it’s gotten a lot better than it was about 10-15 years ago. I was wearing highwater/cropped pants long after they ceased to be cool.

…so I’m sitting on a bench across from the Lowes Cineplex wondering if I should go into Chili’s or the other place, thumbing through my new Barnes & Noble purchase, since that’s just down the walkway behind me, and lo and behold this goddess, this vision, this amazing woman strolls by clutching a bag emblazoned with **Tall Girls** on it !!!

I think over on the 3rd Floor Food Court, nobody snickered but quite a few fellows were quietly awestruck. 🙂

Besides, you hightailed it down to Floor 1 to the Apple Store, picked up a new 240 Gig HD and tucked your Tall Girls bag inside of the Apple Store bag ! 😉

Tall ladies and gentlemen, may I recommend:

[Tall Clubs International](http://www.tall.org).

Past chapter president here.

It’s a startling experience, your first tall club party. Walking in and seeing eye to eye with almost everyone.

Ahhh yes the joys of shopping when you’re tall. For the record last I checked I was 6’1 or around there.

I have never enjoyed Tall Girl stores… first off there are exactly 2 anywhere where I may possibly get to. One in another city that I get to semi often (or used to) and the other in a mall so far away that it may as well be in another city. Then there is selection… I found it was made for tall girls yes… but mucho skinny ones. I have bought exactly one shirt in that store, and it wasn’t of very good quality. It fell apart on me in a couple of months. The third problem I have is price. I have a _very_ limited budget and Tall Girl doesn’t even fit into it.

One store I love is Cotton Ginny. I can always find something in my size, that fits well, is comfortable and I love. Oh it also lasts me a few years too. I’ve been a bit worried about the big sales going on selling off the majority of their merchandise. I love the savings… but I hope they aren’t going out of business. Which I have heard is the reason for the sales.

About half the time I end up shopping in mens stores, but I don’t mind that. Some of their clothes are mega comfy!

I actually need to go out shopping again soon. Maybe this month I’ll have some extra for a couple new pairs of pants.

None taken, but yeah, I’ve got the body of a 13 year old. Feh. (Yes, I’m an adult) When my mother accompanied my fiancee and I to look at wedding cakes the baker congratulated _them_ on the marriage and started asking her what kind of cake she liked!

Most petite departments don’t go down to 0-2. Petite translates to “short”, but not necessarily thin. And you can get a 12 Petite, which I’ll never understand.

Victoria’s Secret has long length slacks and jeans. You might want to take a look there. They cater to tall and short girls.

Here in sunny England, I’m a very, very average 5’6’’, so why are all the trousers 32’’???! They used to be 30’’ and fit fine, so why are they now too long. Some shops sell normal (32’’) and long (34’’) but no short. And why are all the trousers the same length in different sizes? Why do shops assume that all women have the same length legs? Mens trousers come in many different lengths, so why can’t ours? I HATE having to take my trousers up every time I buy. BBTW all the really tall people I know order their trousers from the States or Holland, 'cause there’s no way you can buy them here.
