If I were a Japanese woman, I might very well hit on a “foreigner” - from what I understand, a lot of Japanese men seem to be mean drunks who are building themselves screw-bots. I think Japanese women ought to emigrate to teach Japanese as a second language and leave their loser men to knock themselves out with their inventions. ---

To Northern Europeans, sometimes we Mediterranean types are downright exotic, foreign, and tanned. 🙂 And in seriousness, Southern Italians can have a lot of Middle-Eastern/North African heritage. ---

When I moved to the States I had girls practically draped all over me all day (I was 14). I’m English, but of Indian descent, and the accent was apparently more than enough to induce swoonage all by itself. I had no idea I was talking advantage of all those girls. I had even less idea that I knew stuff about Linux. I don’t think it had even been invented yet. ---

Word to the wise. If you’re considering moving to Asia (well, Japan at least) for the strict purpose of getting laid, think twice. There may have been a time (known as the yellow taxi era) when picking up a quality girl for a casual fling was pretty easy, but that time has passed. Also, if you have any specially attractive qualities (good job, cultured accent, witty, etc) in your own culture that mean you get laid at least occasionally in your home country, again, think twice about moving to Japan to get laid. Those little attractive qualities are culturally invisible to 99.9% of Japanese - you are just a gaijin. On the other hand, if you are particularly attractive, then you won’t have any trouble picking up, but then neither would you back home either. ---

Yup, and that’s what I am. I am also the lightest skinned person by far when I’m with my Italian family- most of whom look mixed race to me (you definitely see the North African influence in them). But all this mocking of me has taken from the point: exotic, when not orange and at a MySpace angle, can be attractive and alluring. Why? Bc it’s different. SO, white guy in Japan is going to get talked to more than he would in the US because he stands out. It’s not that he’s a stud, it’s not that the women are desperate, it’s just that he’s unique in that one little situation. ---

A Japanese girl I went to Uni with a few years ago said that nerdy Japanophile white guys who were obsessed with Magna and Anime were “weird”, and made the (IMHO very reasonable) point that they were like white versions of her brother, and that was extremely off-putting and more than a little pathetic. All the people I know who have been to Asia to teach English have been doing it through reputable organisations and they all gained a lot of knowledge and cultural awareness from their time there, as well as enjoying themselves. None of them mentioned hordes of Asian women coming onto them or anything like that. ---
