# Audience at SuperBowl halftime show

Where do all those hundreds (thousands?) of people on the field come from?

They can’t possibly be coming from the regular spectator seats - the mob would be too massive, and these people seemed quite orderly and well-mannered. My guess is that they are the family and friends of the performers and stage crew. Am I right?

I was wondering the same thing. Apparently they volunteered _specifically_ to be the halftime show crowd, per the article linked to in [this post](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10773561&postcount=12).

I didn’t time before the show, but afterwards, they all managed to get off the field within 3 minutes. Quite ruly, for a crowd that size.

Last year, in Arizona they were volunteers who were NOT allowed to watch the Super Bowl. They came onto the field at halftime and then left the stadium after the performance. They’re not allowed into the stands at all.

I was in Tampa Bay in early Jan. for a conference, and the radios were advertising that if you and 9 of your friends (groups of 10) wanted to, you could apply to be part of the halftime show audience. The advertisement specifically said you weren’t allowed to watch the game itself, you were only to be a part of the halftime spectacle, and that there were a number of other requirements to follow.
