Hi, guys! Did I miss anything? Its rare enough to be welcomed, but to actually be beseeched unto attendance…I blush.
So…it would appear that not much happened, or at least, not much seems to have happened. Perhaps when the sky falls, it makes the same noise as one venal hand grasping.
Or perhaps it is as Xeno implies, that the legal peril of all this is much overated. Even as a camel goes through the eye of a needle more often than a rich man enters the Kingdom of Heaven, they are even less likely to enter the doors of a Club Fed. What with squadrons of lawyers at hand, and all.
After all, we have discovered, to our dismay, that much of the shenanigans (or “creative accounting”) we have witnessed were not, in fact, illegal.
And our CEO’s were certainly motivated to sign off. Indeed, the desire not to be the focus of attention would be a strong motivator: if you have something to hide, you can postpone trouble by fitting in with the herd trundling toward the filing. Better that than have some investors asking why you didn’t sign.
Bottom line: I dunno.
Well, that was a definitive statement.
But, as usual, something great slips in anyway.
Or [shudder] they could actually stand by their company’s accounting practices. There are a few honest people out there, elucidator, and some of them even work in business.
Boy, you really got me that time, erislover.
I’m gonna have to retract that statement I made about how every single CEO in the nation is a venal and grasping scoundrel who should be dragged outside from his desk and given a sound thrashing. Yessiree Bob, ol’ erislover really caught me out that time.
Oh, I’m sorry, did me quoting your words imply that?
What your “refutation”? I agree…it was meaningless, toothless and weak. You presented no facts, just some uninformed statement of rejection.
Allrighty. Try this: All governments have an obligation to protect private property from fire, robbery, theft & fraud. The investors’ money is vanishing, & the Bush Administration is engaging in largely symbolic gestures. There is nothing beneficial in permitting our largest institutions being looted & fleeced. Ergo, the tenor of your posts–that this empty gesture is somehow a good thing–rings very hollow indeed my friend.
Because the desertion of a duty that one has voluntarily sought is inheritly shameful. And in this case, is a national disgrace.
How’s that for a refutation? The classical Greeks would call that an argument in the ethos mode.
Create an ethos, rather than a pathos, response please.
No, sorry. I pointed out how this is not just a symbolic gesture. You have yet to provide any sort of cite or argument refuting that. Stop putting up strawmen and a snarkey attitude, and maybe I’ll start respecting what you have to say.
