Yeah, I’ve had a couple of bad DMs myself. One just shouldn’t have been playing D&D or any fantasy RPG at all. He wanted everything to be historically accurate, and so he didn’t want any magic at all. However, he kept putting up notices saying that he was trying to get a D&D group together. I told him that if he wants to play historically accurate wargames, then he should put up notices saying so, and NOT say that he wants D&D players, because the people who wanted to play the historic wargames wouldn’t answer such notices if they didn’t like D&D. I know that other gamers told him about the same thing. A couple of DMs, though, felt that the object of being a DM was to kill off characters in amusing ways. Now, if I manage to kill off my character because I’ve made a dumbass mistake, or if the dice just hate me, that’s one thing. And I don’t mind if the situation is hard to get out of, but I DO want to be able to keep a character alive if I make the right decisions and rolls. On another subject, my router died last night, while my husband was working the midnight shift. I’ve got a new one now, but I hate trouble shooting the problem with Tech Support, and then my husband won’t believe me when I tell him what TS said. ---

Well, it was a good session, and everyone had fun. No mention of the struggle between us (which was CC’d to everyone) was mentioned. The GM appeared to get the message, but we will see how things are going forward. He did mention at one point that we won’t have a bazillion encounters on the same game day anymore in answer to something someone else said (that I didn’t catch). It was funny, last week another guy at the table said that if it was his only game, he’d quit, but since it wasn’t he was willing to tolerate some of the crap. I said that if it wasn’t my only game, I would quit. Hell, I’ve been playing this game for 33 years. It’s a big part of my milleu. But then, part of my willingness to walk away this week was because I have joined a different game. (Which means I have two games now! Woot! Bards in both games. Bards rock!) And Lynn, yeah, you want to play a more “realistic” game, play d20 Modern or find some period game, but don’t fucking call it Dungeons & Dragons. ---

Hurray for finally getting home. Home is where Bill is, but he’s not here because his crew found a body and he has to deal with that. Did you all know that if the bones are like a thousand years old that the police still need to get involved? Bill says that this body is about a year old, so he has to move the work crews out of the crime zone. I love to be sleeping with fat cats between my legs… I’ll try to take a pic of our new cat as soon as he stops hiding. He’s not really fat, he just has a lot of tangled and matted fur. He’s also very buggy, but I won’t give him a bath tonight. We are just getting to know each other. Bill says that if he finds out who left the declawed cat to fend for himself, said idiot will not be hired for another job on the Keystone project. …and I scratch between their ears… ---

This is a BAR and beer-themed restaurant. Not a Chuck-E-Cheese. So I really don’t think it’s appropriate for your toddlers to be shrieking and running up and down the aisles between tables, even if you are vaguely watching after them. (Oh great, now both of them are sobbing. Maybe they tripped and fell on the stone floor?) ---

I was going to have my only vacation- an overnight camping trip at the beach- today. It was the only way I could afford a weekend at the beach and had a borrowed tent packed and ready, public transit mapped out, everything. You can probably guess the punchline. Rain and thunderstorms all weekend, becoming perfect beach weather the day after I leave. Guess I don’t get a vacation this year. ---

Another kidney stone. Fucker. Had to take the day off work. Just passed it, but not before the combination of the pain and me trying to force down some soup ended up with a chundering expedition to the bathroom. Though maybe I should be grateful - five minutes after emptying my stomach, out popped the obstruction in question. Could be I shook it loose, I guess. Crossing my fingers it is the only one up there this time. ---

to Not a rant, but a brag 🙂 This has been a very good year for me rescue wise. I’ve managed to return THREE critters to their owners. It is so rare for me to find lost pets that have ID. Last night, I came across a shabby looking stray and brought him home. Cue Bill rolling his eyes, but then going to the store for supplies. Today we took kitty to a vet for some Frontline and to be scanned and kitty was chipped! HURRAY!!! The info was up to date! MORE CHEERING!!! The owners had been working on the project in Oklahoma, but had been moved to Nebraska a month ago. Kitty got out while they were hitching their trailor up but they didn’t notice because kitty always rides in the trailor. Long story short, kitty is now being boarded at the vet and his owners will pick him up tomorrow. They offered me a reward, which I shamelessly accepted. Of course, I told them to make the check out to my new rescue group and told them that it was a 501C and would be a tax write off. I do have a bit of a rant, anyhow. The police are acting like someone just got killed and that everyone on the project is involved in a cover up. ---

I’m in the process of uploading some pictures of necklaces I’ve made to an art site. In perusing the beaded jewelry section there, I’ve noticed a trend of young ladies posting photos in which they’ve draped strands of beads around their pink bits. Now I don’t have a problem with artistic nudity, and the human body is beautiful in all its shapes and forms, etc…but why the hell would someone put a vajayjay picture in the “necklace” category??? ---

She is strictly indoors-only and wears a collar with her name and my phone number on it at all times just in case, but it’s one of those breakaway safety collars, so I guess it could fall off. I will ask the vet at her next appointment. ---

Dear lady at the \*Paranorman \*matinee: I imagine having a child with special needs is monumentally difficult. I’m sure it makes you sad to think that he will miss out on a lot of things neurotypical kids take for granted. The answer, however, is not to presume upon everyone else who paid to watch _and hear_ the movie, so your precious can experience life just like every other kid. By the third time or so that he yelled loudly, it was time to take him out of the theater. ---

So someone got the last check in my checkbook and tried to cash it for $3k. Luckily the check cashing place didn’t buy it, and did not cash it. However - I don’t know where the checkbook was stolen from. It was either at my office or at my apartment that I keep in San Jose for when I am at the home office. The apartment I let out using Airbnb, and I can’t check it until tomorrow. I keep very little in the apartment, so not a huge risk - but a pain in the ass nonetheless.
