Update: My PCP’s nurse suggested I get referred to an Orthopedist who is, apparently, an insurance whisperer. She’s known two other people in my position who were able to get an MRI after a visit. I go Monday afternoon. Fingers crossed, progress gets made. ---

Just for fucking fun, web designers, how about putting the site language selection _somewhere near the top of the fucking page_? I just checked a page that showed up in the local language (I’m traveling). As it turns out, there is an option to change it to quite a number of other languages via pull down menu. Where is that menu, you ask? Ah, 23 fucking “Page Down” hits. Yes, I counted. But, of course, I could’ve just gone to the bottom of the page, you say? WRONG! That’s for all the various ways to fucking contact them. So that was seven fucking “Page Up” hits. Yes, I counted that also. Just put the fucking selection button at the top of the fucking page, you fucking fuckwits. _Cursing in this post was not to fucking make it align with this board’s Pit culture. The fucking cursing is there because I’m fucking tired of that fucking nonsense on web pages._ ---

My trip to Iceland/Glasgow is going well, except for two problems. Because of an occasionally wonky knee I walk with a cane. Unless the knee is really bad, I can walk a fair distance without a problem. However, for some reason while I was in Iceland my hip decided that if I walked more than about two minutes it was going to start hurting, to the point where I start walking hunched over and have to stop and rest. This became a serious problem when I got to Glasgow because going anywhere I want to go on public transport requires at least a five minute walk, either to get to a bus arop or from the bus stop to my intended destination. So I’m forced to resort to taking a lot more cab rides than I had expected. Which leads to my second problem. For some reason my phone won’t allow me to send or received text messages or phone calls. Before the trip I managed to get it unlocked so I could use local SIM cards, which does allow me to get online and use the apps I had previous;y installed. However, when I tried to install a Glascow Cab app so I can call a cab it requires me to enter a verification code, which they text me. But since I can’t recieve texts, I don’t get the code. I’ve been managing so far my having the hotel call me cabs, and ride-sharing with other people, but it stiill limits my mobility. Not to mention being more expensive that taking the bus. Other than this I am having a good time. But I’m missing out on some of the things I had hoped to do, especially checking out some restaurants to sample local dishes. ---

Public Service Announcement to All Old People: Being nasty to people who are helping you will NOT reverse the effects of time. I get it: losing your independence is a bitch. Having to rely on people when you never did before can be humiliating. Pain doesn’t bring with it smiles and reserves of extra patience. But suck it up, buttercup, because it’s not going to get better, and going through it alone isn’t going to work. ---

I hadn’t thought of that. Since I’m heading home tomorrow, I won’t get a chance to test it. I also found out tonight that I might have been able to use my Uber app, although I was warned that an Uber might cost me more than a cab. ---

I decided on this same philosophy a while back. It’s amazing how much easier it is to cope with problems when you’re polite to the people who are trying to help you.I also remind myself that getting old may be a bitch, but it beats the alternative. ---

I have to apologize continuously to her caretakers/nurses/PAs/doctors, and hope it’ll make a difference. Having to deal now with finding her an assisted living/dementia care facility, she’s fighting me tooth and nail, it wears one out, beyond impoliteness to outright hostility. I can understand that to an extent - no one wants to give up their independence, but she doesn’t realize she has already lost it. Without my dad helping her, she couldn’t manage on her own. And he has his own health problems to deal with. Now just have to figure out how to pay for it all. Hope to have it lined out soon, supposed to start a new job in 2 weeks, and leave a company I love because there’s not enough work to keep us busy. ---

Really Lady? We’re camping and there is a lodge house with ample toileting facilities including showers. So what happens when I claim a center stall in a nook of three. Across the aisle are twelve empty stalls. I’m alone until a fellow traveler walks in. And guess what? Picks the stall right next to me. #gtfo ---

So, women’s shower rooms run by men’s urinal rules? Makes sense. Although, in that case, the rule would be that you should take one of the end ones to not block out two others. Although there being plenty of other options does grant you some grace from the court.
