My sympathies! I frequently get obsessed about finding a lost item, too. Most often fountain pens. I have over a dozen of them, plus ghod alone knows how many ball points and rolling balls. But if I had in mind to use the red marbled fountain pen, I WANT the red marbled fountain pen, dammit! ---

Then I took everything out of the party clothes closet since maybe for some reason I had put it in there. I also moved everything on the floor of both closets in case it had fallen to the floor. Not there either. Then I went through the work pants and tops closet. Nothing. Then the casual clothes closet. Nope. I even looked through the coats and jackets closet in case I had lost my mind when I put it away. (Yeah, I have a lot of clothes, but I know everything I have and everything has its place.) I’m going to stop looking now. As Einstein said “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”. Of course, maybe he never had something inexplicably disappear. Hell, maybe someday it will inexplicably reappear. ---

I’ve lost so many things, but most of them temporarily. I often say “I’m giving up. It hasn’t left the house.” And a week later, I say “Hey, why is my Japanese pen next to the phone? I’ve been looking for that!” ---

\ \ Have you checked your drawers? (As in the bureau drawers.) I ask because while you’d normally never put the skirt in a drawer, it’s about the only place you don’t seem to have checked. Sometimes, your brain just takes a hike. ---

I keep wishing there was a GPS tag that I could put on _EVERYthing,_ but it might get awkward: gloves, hats, all my favorite pens and screwdrivers, the papers I print out at home but need to take to work, and of course each and every sock. Maybe some kind of nano-bot technology, so I can tag tiny things like earbuds and my lucky half-farthing. ETA: I bet Google knows where these things are! There must be some sort of Sooper-Sekrit-Google-Satellite/Drone View, where you can search for “my little black Gucci dress”. ---

Did you look hanging on hooks behind doors that are never shut. I found a hoodie I had been looking for since last year on a hook behind the door to the upstairs bathroom. I never shut that door because of a catbox inside. ---

Look under other things on hangers? Maybe it’s under a sweater? When hangers were at a premium here, I used to layer clothing on hangers. Mini gripe: It’s -8F here right now. Open the book of faces and first thing I see is a post from a friend asking how can there be global warming when it’s so cold. I knew he was dense, but didn’t think he was a moron. ---

I’ve been looking for an old pair of dressmakers shears that came from my Aunt. I kept them safe and away from kids using them on paper for years. About 2 years ago I needed them and they were not where I kept them. I’ve been searching ever since. I’ve accused everyone of ‘borrowing’ them. No one knows anything, of course. ---

I love those sheets because they’re so comfy but I hate that I have to have mismatched pillowcases whenever I use them. ---
