# Aussie slang -  whats a WAG girl?

I’ve been watching the current season of the Aussie version of Dancing with the Stars.

Two of the ladies on the show are called WAGS on the show and in print. What does that stand for? Hope it’s not nasty. 😛

Also widely used in the UK, but more often in connection with footballers.

That’s very strange. I’ve lived in Australia most of my life but never heard that of that term before I read it here.

That’s because it’s actually a UK term that has only just started to make it into the lexicon over here in the last couple of years. Definitely it’s only made it into mainstream media usage within less than the last 5 years.

Well, it’s only been mainstream in the UK since the 2006 World Cup coverage. But it did get used a LOT during that.
