Australia - the most BEAUTIFUL country in the world?

Heh… I actually live in the worlds most livable city, and let me tell you, it’s great. We have unpredictable weather and seem to be in the middle of a drought (hyey, it’s AU, we’re used to it) but everyone seems to be happy about everything, apart from the usal exceptiosn.

I think the rest of the world is right when they say that aussies have that “she’ll be right mate” attitude

Oh… and for the last fucking time, shithead… not everyone here has a kangaroo. ← directed to everyone on ICQ who messages me going “OGOMG LOK U HAVE ROO PET YES?”

Having only ever seen three countries (the US, Australia and Canada), I can’t speak for the whole rest of the world, but what I saw of Australia was definitely beautiful in a way totally unlike North America. There’s so much light and so much color. I’ve never seen sky quite so blue, or sunlight so bright* elsewhere.

And the animals are so very, very cool.

That’s not to say that there’s no beauty in a pine forest in winter, or a stand of red maples, turning color in the autumn, but I definitely think Australia is incredibly lovely.

entity119: You have a pet kangaroo, yes?

I’ve been to 8 different countries and I must admit, none are more beautiful than Texas.

ralph124c: I think the red centre is one of the most beautiful parts of the country! Ok, maybe not to live in… but certainly to visit. I love the open expanses of spinifex and scrub with the wide blue sky and red red earth.

Yes, we know it’s hot. And if it bothered us, we wouldn’t live here - that’s why God gave us Akubras, SPF30+ and Being Inside Between 11am and 3pm.

'Course we Stralian’s aren’t a greatly religous bunch and tend to ignore these things…

I posted my poem about cuddly animals in Oz (The quoll and the quokka – see above in this thread) at the wordorigins website and got this response:

Second verse,
much like the first,
but a little bit longer
and a little bit worse:

A quahog and quagga
Marooned off Malaga
Were singing a saga
In Old Onondaga
While playing a raga
By Sonia Braga.

No, but sometimes he watches his wallaby feed,* mate!

Raymond: Qantas. Never crashed.

Rain Main was a big movie in the late 1980’s. Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise - it was a Hoffman - Cruise vehicle, even.

They’re in St. Louis and Cruise’s character needs to get to LA. Raymond is reciting dates and casualties of American, KLM, TWA disasters… Cruise yells at him, “The only way we can fly Quantas to LA is through Melbourne!”

Actually, it would be Sydney ;). Qantas was the only airline to include that scene (which I’ve paraphrased) in their in-flight movies (they show three in a 19 hour flight from LA to Sydney) - The other airlines clipped and skipped over it - so you just see Raymond and his bro Cruise (and babe Valarie) inexplicably driving across the country.

I’ve been to Oz and was stunned by the scenery the length of the east coast, particularly the far north east. Sydney is an outrageously pretty city too.

I suppose someone has to make a play for Ireland so it might as well be me. It’s nice and green. I’m glad we got that out of the way.

OK, obviously, a fact finding mission needs to be headed and I volunteer to be the leader.

All I need is my expenses paid for.
