If Gillard’s strangely automaton-like performance on Seven News last night was any indication of how she behaved around the voters, it may cease to be a Labor heartland. She gave unrelated, canned responses about how much she always enjoys visiting the area, and it was one of the most unconvincing performances I’ve seen from a high-ranking Aus. politician.
It really was quite pathetic, and it only highlighted the “Johnny come lately” aspect of her tour.
There’s always** Pauline**…she hasn’t quite decided where she’ll fling her dung in the lower house elections this year. I imagine it’ll be whichever electorate will reimburse her the most dosh after losing, again.
The thing is, whilst I’m broadly supportive of the Katter Party, there’s just too much homophobia, “Dey Tuk Er Jerbs!” xenophobia, and unworkable silliness in policies there for me. Shame, really, because I think they do have some valid points in a number of areas otherwise.
I might be supportive of Katter’s party, except for the teeny, yet insurmountable problems you mention, if I could ever, even once, work out what the fuck he’s on about.
I listened to him make a speech once about something. Had to do with the floods, or at least ostensibly that’s what he rose to speak about. That’s what the Speaker said, anyway. It was perhaps - and I remain unsure - about how Coles and Woolies are bad and how Telstra is evil but Optus is good because they brought a portable mobile phone cell into West Didjabringyabeeralong, but I really, seriously, had no idea what he was even trying to convey, despite the fact that all the words he used were in English and appeared at first listen to be grammatical.
OTOH, I agree with what I thought he said about Coles and Woolies utterly and completely. I have no idea what it had to do with flooding, though.
The Katter Party’s Core Values & Principles strike me as being eminently sensible and reasonable for the most part. If they can address the issues they’ve got I’d say they’re the closest thing the country has to a viable third party.
I agree something needs to be done about Coles & Woolworths, though. Whilst I appreciate they create lots of jobs for people, it’s getting harder to find a retail business with sensible prices that’s not tied into them somewhere along the way - and I don’t think that’s benefitting the country anymore.
Rudd is now either signalling his intent to challenge Gillard by joking about “the Ides of March” or he’s just further destabilising the government for his own amusement. This week should be very interesting.
I am keen to hear the tone of Labor party comments about Gillard when the kniofing process begins. Of the 3 leaders the party had prior to Gillard, two have been counted deranged by other Labor members and the other was Kim Beazley. Could be very funny stuff.
Anyboy know if the ABC is working on a 2nd series of At Home With Julia? I disovered it on Youtube, and even without a detailed knowledge of Australian politics it’s funny as hell.
