G’day, as an Aussie I am very interested to hear from fellow dopers what they consider to be the great Australian Movies. Just tying to get a flavour of what people around the world enjoy and also to share, if you havent seen any of these then do yourselves a favour and do it! I thought that [The Proposition](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0421238/combined) was a great movie (but not in the same league as Breaker Morant). ETA: [Walkabout](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067959/combined) was also a pretty fine movie. ---

I have seen many of the films mentioned. My favorites were _Strictly Ballroom_ and _Breaker Morant._ ---

For a great, recent Australian movie, [Animal Kingdom](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1313092/). And depending on your definition of “Australian film,” [Lore](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1996310/?ref_=ttco_co_tt) was directed by an Australian with a mostly Australian crew and was Australia’s entry for the foreign-language Oscar, even though it’s set in Germany and the dialogue is in German. That’s a fantastic movie. ---

If I can tack on a question to Sisu’s thread. I’ve always enjoyed _The Castle_ a great little movie. Givne that a lot of the laughs rely on what I take to be fairly heavy Australian stereotypes, I’m curious to hear how transplantable the humour is to a non-Australian?
