Besides, this cat is Freddy, one-third of the Eddy, Teddy and Freddy brothers from whom I took my nom de Dope. They’re all gone now, alas, but Freddy lives avatarly on in all his glorious goofiness. ---

One of the thing I always liked about this board was that I could get into the meat of a topic without being distracted by avatars, sigs, or _too_ many douchebag trolls. There’s a Mac-oriented board I should check more often, but people there have 300x300 family photos in their sigs. Imagine, in an ongoing discussion, someone like Beck would reply fifty times and you’d have to scroll past this huge point-n-shoot pic of her extended family, with pets, all not-really-wanting-to-be posed in front of some historical plaque… fifty times. I started college as an art major so [Tippy the Turtle](http://mentalfloss.com/article/80633/could-you-draw-turtle) holds a special place in my heart. True story: When my son was a kid, he came home having drawn Tippy from the back of some school flier and wanted to send it in. So Tippy’s been screwing with my family for three generations. ---
