# Avatar - The Way of Water

The only thing I didn’t like about the length was that after one of the battles, things started to be winding down and I was afraid that the movie would just end without a _truly_ epic battle, which would await the sequels. Probably one reason I didn’t mind so much is that I only had to use the restroom once during the movie, since the ads and previews took so long that I already went twice during them so had an empty bladder when the actual movie started.

I thought that she appeared when the daughter was interfacing with Eywa, which would make sense, because in the last scene of the previous movie, didn’t she say something to the effect of “it is real” before dying, which implies that Eywa interfaced with her, so she, or at least her personality, could be living perpetually inside of Eywa.

I actually avoid 3D movies because I am blind in one eye so 3D movies are lost on me.

That is certainly implied and will almost certainly be the central plot point for future movies.

I think James Cameron just loves the water and oceans. All of his best movies that don’t feature Terminators have something to do with the water. Way of the Water just really took me away to another world that I enjoyed visiting. The story and characters were a little thin but I really just liked being along for the ride.
Do I think this world and characters can handle three more movies? Probably not unless they do something drastic like a time jump or follow completely different characters (like show what Earth is like), but did I really get into this one? Yep. Maybe it was just the Christmas spirit 🙂 .

My family and I absolutely loved it. Obviously the visuals are mind-blowing — a seamless “you-are-there” blend of CGI and live action — but I also enjoyed the plot, the dialogue (especially the typical teens-these-days repartee), and the themes. I didn’t think it was too long, except maybe one too many hostage-situation scenes at the end.
I find it odd that some reviewers thought it lacked character development. It had plenty! C’mon, people, this isn’t _Anna Karenina_! Sheesh.

I do not recall that it did but I can’t be 100% certain (I was not paying attention to that aspect of the filming).
I mean, the whole movie is in 3D so it is mostly filmed like a regular movie. There are some scenes meant to really deliver the 3D experience but I do not recall it being first person. If a first perrson shot did happen it is a tiny part of the whole.

I checked and the original movie is sold in 3d blu-ray. I might buy the new one down the line. 3 hrs at home seems a better fit for me.

The level of verisimilitude displayed in the movie was simply staggering. For instance, Cameron obviously spent a very, very long time thinking about what futuristic alien whaling would look like, and designing the equipment involved. It’s a nuts-and-bolts approach to science fiction you don’t see much these days, and definitely not at this level.

Saw it today. When I entered teh theater I heard ads (no trailers yet), but nothing on screen. Then the audio stopped.
Sat there ~15 min, did NOT get any trailers (which I actually like seeing). The movie probably started about the time it would normally.
Are they still trying to mine unobtanium? Or is it all ~~spice~~ space spermaceti ?
I know Cameron loves water, but are there no other forests on Pandora?
Good visuals, mediocre plot with holes, but I don’t feel cheated seeing it in the theater (even if I didn’t see any trailers)

Unobtainium was notably not mentioned. The whale-brain-goo was said to be valuable, but on the other hand there was some mention that “Earth is dying, Pandora is the future” or somesuch. So which is it? Is the Earth economy important and USD worth something? Or is Earth dead and Pandora’s nascent economy all that matters?

First of all, an immortality serum will always be valuable.
Second of all, “Earth is dying” can mean that they know Earth will become uninhabitable to humans in another 50-100 years. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t an Earth economy _now_, just that they also need to start preparing Pandora for colonization in the future.

Saw it tonight. Wasn’t overly impressed but it was enjoyable for what it was: a nice swim with the whale-creatures. Missing some of the excitement of the first one with the paraplegic getting legs thing. The actors were fine, but I had a little trouble keeping the blue people straight. Didn’t even recognize Kate Winslet’s voice, and Jemaine was missing his NZ accent. Big question tho: what happened to Nurse Jackie (Edie Falco)? I looked, and there she was, gone.

Did the seats shake for you? I was not going to pay an extra $6 a ticket for haptic feedback but I could feel the vibrations from a few rows back.

He was one of the American scientist/military guys. Sounded American. He worked with the guy who DID have a NZ/Aussie accent. He was the one extracting the whale brain goo if memory serves. Also had a greyish beard.
