I have decided not to ever like any product again. Because apparently me liking a particular shampoo or brand of dinner napkins or flavor of yogurt is the fucking kiss of death: Discontinued!

And can anyone explain to me why no one is selling sweatshirts any more? I found like three hoodies at the Target (size XXXL; no I am not!) but no others, and none that were 100% cotton. A few years back these were everywhere. Now, nowhere. I swear to og, if denim jeans vanish from the stores (in favor of those bright red, yellow, and purple “jeans” I’m now seeing) I am going to shoot myself, having officially Lived Too Long.

The next day. Cried all last evening, didn’t fall asleep till 2. Have cried a lot this morning.

Yep, I still hate women. What makes it really awful is that I am one.

How come they don’t make pico de gallo without jalapenos in it?! I don’t like those little bastards and I’m tired of picking around them.

Furthermore, why do they stop making EVERYTHING I like? My friend’s been laughing at me over this since high school, every time I get really into a food at the grocery store or a restaurant, they viciously yank it away from me. I want my IHOP breakfast burrito and QFC restaurant-style salsa and cookies & mint Hershey’s and strawberry-kiwi Crystal Light and Taco Bell Mexinuggets and etc etc etc. And it’s not even just food actually, it’s everything!

ETA: Just saw your post, **kayT**! It’s somewhat comforting to know I’m not the only one being conspired against in this way.

I’ve worked in the clothing trade. Apparently, it violates some sort of Fashion Rule to sell clothes that are actually in season. You have to stock and sell NEXT season’s clothes. And the designers don’t like to design basic classics, everything has to be the latest trend.

This, combined with your talent to discontinue products, means that you need to go live in a cabin in the woods and make everything yourself. And don’t think that I haven’t been tempted to do this myself.

>
> What for? I have to spend my time and money to get a piece of paper “letting me” go to a physical therapist, many of whom are MDs or have MDs on staff? So instead of being able to make an evening appointment for a PT in my town, I will have to take time off work to drive to Winfield to see my GP for a exam, when I just had one less than six months ago, in order to get the necessary exercise and stretching routine for my back thing. Ridiculous. No wonder we have health care issues in this state.

This is very different from my experience here in NJ several years ago when I had a knee injury (among other things) in a car accident.

The injury first had to be evaluated by a physician specialist to determine the extent of the injury and the appropriate treatment. He wrote a prescription to the PT for treatment. After several months the improvement seemed to have leveled off, better but not entirely. At that time surgery was scheduled to repair torn cartilege.

IMHO it’s better to first see a physician who is a specialist in these things to determine exactly what’s needed. IMHO it should be a doctor who’s NOT associated with the PT practice just to keep everyone honest. Physical Therapists are not usually qualified to diagnose. Without a pre-screening the door would be wide open for all kinds of problems.

To **digs** :
The reason you have to go through PT first is to be sure you can’t solve the problem with a less drastic procedure.

You knew this was coming.

What place are you going to? I know at least two places that have pico de gallo without jalapenos. One is Taco Johns and the other is a local Mexican restaurant.

Oh, I mean at the grocery store. Pico de gallo at Mexican restaurants hasn’t given me much trouble, but I’ve bought a bunch of different kinds at a bunch of different grocery stores and it’s like a jalapeno convention in there.

Ugh. The creeping crud is going around, my mom was sick last weekend and she managed to give it to me. And I have “girl stuff” on top of being sick. I can feel my monthly migraine coming on. Lots of places have a MD on staff who does the initial consult and therapy recommendations.

I get that there is a danger in a non-MD making a mistake, like, say, missing a leaky aneurism as back pain. But I would be more comfortable seeing an MD who sees nothing but back pain, because they would be the ones with the most experience diagnosing and referring out patients who have non-PT injuries. Instead, I have to go to a GP who specializes in nothing, pay for the office visit, and get a piece of paper that says I can go get my injury treated. As if I have nothing but time and money to waste.

Not to mention that the whole time I’m bouncing around from doc to doc, my back hurts.

Yeah, I know - it’s just such a crap shoot to ask an employee for any help, because it’s usually just what I’ve described - go look at exactly the same shelf I was looking at, tell me you don’t have it. It doesn’t matter if I tell them I’ve already looked, either, because they assume that I am also a braindead moron like the rest of their shoppers. 🙂

OH yeah, rant du jour - hey, dickbag at the Rona hardware lumber yard - no, you don’t have the insulation I want in the store because the two pallets you have are sitting right here in the lumber yard, and yes, we can easily get the seven bags that I paid for in my Corolla. Don’t give me that, “looking for ways to not help you” attitude - I hate that shit.

I pit muddy obstacle races.

I’d love to do and obstacle race, but why the fuck do they have to all have mud as a central feature? I’ll probably end up doing Tough Mudder with the SO in the fall just because it’s in town, though.

Not ranty: Mom is getting sprung from the hospital next Tuesday. She’ll do therapy at home for a while.

Ranty: Mom wants me to stay with her “a couple of nights”. I’m not supposed to take off work, but it’s perfectly fine to assume I’ll be functional at work knowing I don’t sleep well on her couch. This could go badly.

Which is fabulous when you have kids. They tend to grow out of/wreck clothes at an alarming rate. If they do so in the middle of the actual season, you are truly screwed.

(This has happened with winter boots, snowpants, sandals, jackets, shorts, bathing suits.)

The solution most parents have come up with is to buy two in their current size and one in the size up. It’s just a waste! Let me buy a pair of winter boots in January damnit!

My daughter broke her boots last week and now she has mine (which are only a little too big). I went to 12 different stores and nada. Nothing.

**Sateryn76** , have you tried a call to your regular doctor, to see if he’d just refer you to a PT? Since he’s seen you recently and all, and since you seem to know exactly what the problem is.

It’s worth a try. Some docs will, some won’t.

Hey! I’m rantin’ here!

But I will appreciate the logic, once I cool down. And, actually, I tore the meniscus in the other knee five years ago, and have kept surgery at bay by building up the muscles around that knee (mostly with riding my bike to work). But this knee? Big tear, down I went, basically couldn’t put weight on it for two months.

When I needed new winter gloves in the middle of a vicious cold snap and all the usual stores were sold out, I found plenty left in a local REI store. They pretty much - with some variation in proportions for the season - stock outdoor gear for most seasons all year round since they like to sell the image that their customers will go adventuring wherever and whenever. I don’t know what stores you have locally that would be similar, but some kind of “big adventure gear” store may have what you need.

Alternately, check [Zappos](http://www.zappos.com/girls-boots~5D). Two-day-ish shipping and free return shipping - at least in the US - so if it doesn’t fit, it’s not such a big deal as many online shoe shopping options.
