My first post in a 2013 rants thread - lets make it worthwhile! To my sister, for food-policing me to the extent it’s messing up my eating, please don’t. (boring detailed rant deleted, because it was boring even me). To the woman in the FB parenting group - no, random-north-Glasgow-suburb is NOT the same as different-random-south Glasgow-suburb. One has a pram-accessible train station which means I can get to it, the other is on the different side of the fecking River Clyde and can only be got to by car or pram-inaccessible subway. So it does make a difference which suburb that new softplay is in, got it?! To my old Uni friend who told me a really disturbing story the other night, in the expectation that I’d laugh at her drunken night out - no, actually, it’s not funny when you’re so drunk you don’t even know what hotel you’re in with these two blokes you picked up for casual sex in a bar, and they end up leaving money for you behind hotel reception, presumably on the assumption that you’re a prostitute. Never mind the fact that your supposedly monogamous lesbian girlfriend was with you too, and presumably either went along with this drunken lark, or encouraged it. Not meaning to sound like a prude, but that’s not a good lifestyle choice ladies. To my mother - you’re not a poor pensioner. So a second hand toy kitchen missing most of its accessories, from a charity shop, as a Christmas present for your only grand-daughter? I’d honestly rather you gave her nothing. (I’m sure there was more…) ---

We’re moving offices at work (a whole 'nuther rant for a different thread) so I’m eating up my stashes of random drawer snacks. Breakfast this morning was a fortune cookie from a while back: “Focus on the color purple this week to bring you luck.” 1. My fortune cookie knows my SDMB username! :eek: 2. It’s already Friday. We have discovered a second lump on our cat. The first lump (skin infection in addition to lump/tumor/mass) is still oozing regularly from where they made an incision to take a fine needle biopsy. Now there’s a second lump, and it may be oozing also. We’re planning on going back to the vet tomorrow for the walk-in clinic unless it gets much worse, but we _really_ don’t need this right now. And poor Roxie is dreadfully uncomfortable in the Cone of Shame. ☹ ---

Does she really need the cone? If she’s not supposed to lick at it, (and is fairly easily deterred), you can make a softer collar out of coffee filters. Take a few of them, cut a cat-neck-sized hole in the middle and a slit through the edge so you can get it around her neck, then tape it closed again. Not nearly so unwieldy as a plastic cone. ---

When my cat had a psoriasis-like infection on her neck that refused to heal because she kept scratching at it, my neighbour gave her a sleeve-protector thingy that slipped over her neck and folded down. Kept her claws away from the spot and it was healed up in a few days. It’s a heavy material and looks like a cut-off sleeve with the cuff attached. I think guys in construction use them. ---

Ouch, **flatlined**! That made me want to cross my arms over my chest! My boobs get in the way sometimes but I don’t think I’ve ever shut one in a drawer. My rant: Dammit apartment complex, I know you guys pay someone to take care of the snow in the parking lots, so where are they? The snow we got last week has now compacted into ice, which makes walking across the lot treacherous at best. I’ve already injured myself while falling on ice enough for one lifetime, I have a bum shoulder to show for it from a fall several years ago. I’m worried about my klutzy self falling, but I’m also concerned about my little old lady neighbor. She’s so tiny a gust of wind could blow her away. I left a message with the office earlier today, we’ll see if anything gets done. It’s weird, they’re usually on top of this sort of stuff. ---

Roxie is 7 or 8, we think; she was a stray we rescued. Lump #1 (with infection) is on her right shoulder, lump #2 is almost on her right hip. She has a bad habit of plucking her fur when she’s anxious, so I think the cone is necessary. We do take it off a little each day when we can monitor her. We had to trim off about an inch from the size of it originally; when we came home initially, she couldn’t walk without it catching on the floor. ---

I’ve also had luck with a tiny dog sweater on a cat that had a sewn in port on the back of her neck. I trimmed her back claws, so she could scratch if she needed to but would do no damage to herself or get caught in the sweater. ---

\*\*Fuck Time Warner Cable. \*\* They sent out a letter in October explaining that they were switching several channels over to digital-only (they’re gradually phasing out their analog signal). Never fear though – the letter went on to explain that adapters would be available for TVs in your house that weren’t connected to a cable box. In early December, I realized that I sort of missed having one of the channels available upstairs, so I called to order a couple of adapters. A week went by, and nothing arrived, so I called again. I was told that there was some “issue” with getting my address to show up in the appropriate fields for shipping, but I was assured that the adapters would be shipped. Another week went by, and nothing…so I called again. I was told that the adapters definitely didn’t ship, but that they were on their way this time! The end of the month rolls around, and nothing. :mad: I gave up calling and headed to their local office (Atlantic Avenue, for Raleigh-area Dopers). They had customers lined up out the door. I called one last time, and was told that the adapters would ship in 3-4 business days. They even gave me a confirmation number this time! :rolleyes: Obviously, I have no adapters. What a bunch of incompetent jackasses. I would cancel the service, but I like having a high-speed internet connection, and I’m not sure how I would return the cable equipment…I don’t have time to go stand in that line. This is the same company that refuses to remove my dead father’s name from the account.
