Awfully & Terribly

Wicked good thread you got here. Ayuh, ayuh, ayuh, ayuh.

Plenty of comedic opportunities with these types of double-meaning: one I remember was from ‘Blackadder Goes Forth’ when Bob(1) says, “I want to see how the war is fought - so badly!” and Blackadder replies:

“Well, you’ve come to the right place. A war hasn’t been fought this badly since Olaf the Hairy ordered two thousand(2) battle helmets with the horns on the inside.

(1) a throwback joke to Blackadder II where a young woman is disguised as a man.

(2) I may have the number incorrect, but otherwise I believe the quoted exchange is verbatim.

I’m the office manager at a commercial cleaning company. My boss’ favorite “funny” line is, “We want to clean your office in the worst way.”

And don’t forget terrific. “You look terrific,” usually means very good, but it can mean, “You look scary.”
